ELI GALLOWAY  was born April 17, 1820 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and died February 28, 1896 in Transylvania County, North Carolina.  He married ELIZABETH OWEN Abt. 1840 in Henderson County, North Carolina, daughter of -- OWEN and MARY ADAMS.  She was born December 28, 1817, and died July 14, 1881 in Transylvania County, North Carolina.

This indenture made and entered into this the 11th day of April A.D. 1868 between Jackson Owen and Mary Ann Owen of the first part and Eli Galloway of the other part both of the State and County aforesaid witnesseth that in and for consideration of three hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the said Eli Galloway the receipt whereof I do acknowledge and release acquit and discharge to the said Eli Galloway his heirs executors administrators and by thee present doth grant bargin sell and confer to the said Eli Galloway his heirs and assins for ever a certain pice or parcel of land containing fifty acres actuated and being in the State and County aforesaid on the West prong of French Broad River on the North side.

beginning at a black oak near the top of the mountain then south 7 1/2 West 63 poles to a maple near a hollow, thence North 750 West 130 poles to a stake thence North 7 1/2 East 60 poles to a stake thence South 750 East 130 poles to the beginning corner containing fifty acres more or less.

Together with all the woods waters ways mines and minerals and appurtenances unto the said Eli Galloway his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever claims or claimes made by me or any other person or persons either in law or in equity. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day and date above written.
