Research Recommendations:

01 JAN 2004 Linda Hoxit Raxter
There has been speculation as to whether or not Benjamin Wilson is related to William Wilson and Matthew Wilson who settled in present day Transylvania County, North Carolina before or soon after 1800.  Matthew Wilson did live in close proximity to Benjamin and witnessed a land transaction for Benjamin Wilson.  And the names Matthew and Samuel both appear among the children of Benjamin Wilson and William Wilson.  Matthew Wilson only had one son making name pattern matches difficult.  William Wilson and Benjamin Wilson have both been included in accounts of early Methodism in the area.  A biological connection is certainly possible if not probable.  More research in this direction should work towards ultimately proving or disproving the connection.

Jane Grant Wilson has frequently been listed as having the maiden name Grant.  However, the two located death certificates of the wilson children list her as having the maiden name Wilson.  In addition, the will of Benjamin Wilson refers to her as "Jane Grant."  Since she signs her name Jane G. Wilson, it seems unreasonable for Benjamin Wilson to refer to her with her maiden name in the will.  In addition, three of the children of William Wilson did marry cousins - a common practice of the day to consolidate family influence  Based on these factors, Jane is listed as having the maiden name Wilson in this household summary.  However, until her parents are documented, this remains a working theory..
