William Ivey Perry
William Ivey Perry
Born: Feb. 12, 1883 Berkley, VA
Died: Mar. 16, 1927 Seattle, WA

William Ivey Perry, son of Ivey Dowdy Perry and Sallie Ann Parker and grandson of Josiah D. Perry and Nancy Sawyer Perry, entered the U.S. Navy in Seattle along with his brother, Merritt Sawyer Perry, and was discharged in 1904.  From Seattle city directories dating from 1912-1923 it appears William worked in a wide variety of jobs--life insurance, clerk in the tobacco shop and mariner.  The Perry Family Bible shows his death date as March 16, 1927 but the actual date of his death is probably not known because he was lost in the wilderness in the rugged  Nisqually LaGrande Canyon in the Cascade Range and his body was never recovered [see 6 news articles on the search].  A marriage license shows that William married Olga Frederickson in King Co., WA on July 13, 1914.  They are found in the 1920 King Co., Washington census.  Both are age 35 and there are no children in the home.  According to this census Olga was born in Minnesota, her father in Ireland and her mother in Sweden.  The 1922 Seattle City Directory lists W.I. Perry as a mariner and in September 1923 he filed for divorce citing cruelty.  The divorce was finalized in King Co., WA on April 30, 1924.  Olga was listed in the 1924-1926 Seattle City Directory as being a presser and William is living in another residence. Olga remarried in 1929 to Edwin Jordan who died in 1944.  According to Olga's brief death notice, she was born in Minneapolis, MN.
