Merritt Sawyer Perry
Born: Aug. 21, 1884 Berkley, VA
Died:  Nov. 22, 1965 Kansas City, MO

Merritt Sawyer Perry, son of Ivey Dowdy Perry and Sallie Ann Parker and grandson of Josiah D. Perry and Nancy Sawyer Perry, enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 6, 1899 and was discharged on Aug. 29, 1905.  He was first married to Mary Ann Harrison on July 13, 1908 in Seattle, Washington.  Mary Ann was born to William and Mary Ogden Harrison in Chicago, Illinois on Feb. 3, 1883.  She died on Nov. 29, 1958 in Springfield, MO and is buried in the National Cemetery there.  Merritt then married Monty ____ in 1960 and was married to Grace Dysert in 1963.  Merritt is also buried in the National Cemetery in Springfield, MO.  In 1910 Merritt and his wife were in Pacific Co., Washington where he was listed as a jeweler.  In 1918 they were living in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin where Merritt filed his WWI Draft Card which stated he was of slender build, medium height, had blue eyes and brown hair.  He has not yet been found in any 1920 census but he was living in the City of Springfield in Greene Co., MO by 1930 along with his wife, Mary A. and son, Robert, age 17.  He was a jeweler all his life.  His grandson, Rex Perry, still possesses some of his jewelers tools.
