as follows: NEWTON - John Levi Travis, 82, of
Caleb-Setzer Road, Newton, passed away Thursday,
Dec. 2, 2004, at Brian Center East in Hickory.
Born June 28, 1922, in Catawba County, he was the
son of the late Noah Allen and Effie Mae Kanipe
Travis. He retired from Old Dominion Box Co. in
1977 after 42 years, and B & B Printing in
1993. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran
Church. He taught Sunday school for 16 years, and
served on the Board of Elders and Board of
Evangelism. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by a son, Johnny Mac Travis; a
daughter, Sharon Travis; 11 brothers; and three
sisters. He is survived by his wife, Anna
Weddington Travis of the home; a daughter,
Marietta Warner and husband, Ronnie, of Conover;
a son, Clyde Wrenn Travis and wife, Carolyn W.,
of Newton; three brothers, Carlton Travis of
Conover, Glenn Travis of Newton and Martin Travis
of Carlton, Ill.; three sisters, Louise Lester of
Conover, Mary London of Kannapolis and Charlotte
Cranford of Newton. The funeral service will be
held on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Mount
Olive Lutheran Church in Newton, with the Rev.
Ralph Abernethy officiating. Burial will follow
in the church cemetery with military rites by
American Legion Post 16. The family will receive
friends Sunday at the church two hours prior to
the service. Memorials may be made to Mount Olive
Lutheran Church, 2103 Mount Olive Church Road,
Newton, N.C. 28658. Burke Mortuary in Newton is
serving the Travis family. [Hickory Daily
