Her obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Pauline "Polly" Cranford Travis, 86, of Claremont, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at her residence. Born Jan. 19, 1918, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late George and Oakolna Shuffler Cranford. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover and had retired from Conover Chair. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gail A. Travis; four brothers; and a sister. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Huggins and husband, Allen, of Dallas, N.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry W. Travis and wife, Geraldine, Douglas A. Travis Sr. and wife, Linda, and R. Dail Travis and wife, Kathy, of Claremont; a brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Pauline "Polly" Cranford of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover. The Rev. Anton Lagoutine will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 2126 St. John's Church Road, Conover, N.C. 28613 or to Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
