Transylvania County, North Carolina Death Certificates

The images and information below comes from the official photocopy of volume 2 located in the Transylvania County, North Carolina Registrar of Deeds Office. Sometime after 1998, the original books were improperly stored in a known leaking court house basement. As a result, they have been water damaged and are no longer available. This is unfortunate since page 60 was copied twice instead of page 61.

Some names in the index have been somewhat standardized to facilitate searching using the "find" tool in an Internet browser. This is not perfect. If the find tool does not find a specific name, users may locate it by reading through the entire index. Click the hyperlink on the page number to see an image of the actual document and original spellings.

Volume 2 is organized by township with the following local registrars:

Brevard Township: G. C. Kilpatrick with the last two by E. F. Gillespie. Legibility is fair.: About midway through, the registrar's signature changes to the initials GCK with a more formal and less legible handwriting style.
Boyd Township: A. E. Lyday. Writing fair.: A. E. Lyday was a physician, and the medical information tends to be more complete.
Catheys Creek Township: C. R. Sharp. Writing fair.
Dunns Rock Township: F. L. Wilson. Writing fair.
Eastatoe Township: Walter Whitmire. Writing poor to fair.
Gloucester Township: Vance Galloway. Writing good.
Hogback Township: Ward Breedlove. Writing fair.
Little River Township: F. P. Shuford. Writing poor to fair.
Rosman: W. P. Hogsed. Writing poor to fair.
