William Hawkins, Esq., age 42, former Governor of North Carolina and son of Philemon Hawkins of Warren Co., died at the residence of Robert Alston in Sparta, GA. He was returning from Fort Hawkins, to which he had travelled to settle the concerns of his late uncle Col. Benjamin Hawkins. His survivors included a wife, seven children (the youngest 10 days old), and a "venerable parent."
