NOTE: Judging from the birthplaces of their children, Walter and Jane (Markham ?) McGowen had moved from White Co., TN to Alabama prior to 1840, however I haven't been able to find them in that census... anywhere. Also, they don't appear in either the 1860 or 1870 Alabama censuses. Their son James A. McGowen appears in Marion County in 1880.
NOTE: The widow, Sarah McGowen, and family of Walker McGowen's brother, Samuel McGowen, lived a few houses away in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census, Sarah and children were living in adjacent Walker Co., AL. Please see: Samuel McGowen Census Records.
