Benjamin Dough Tillett was born in
Kitty Hawk, Currituck County, on April 28, 1840 to Samuel Avery Tillett, Sr. &
Sarah Mariah (Beacham) Tillett. Ben first married Lovey Walker on Sept. 29, 1859 and they had one child:
Avery
Benjamin Love "Belove" Tillett [see his photo
here]. Although no marriage license has been found, it has been
said that Ben was married a second time to Sallie Ann Midgett
(died 1867) and that they had one child: Sallie Ann Belinda Tillett
(1867-1897). Ben was married for the third time on Sept. 14,
1868 to Mary Frances Midgett and no children were produced from
this union. Ben's last wife was Almira Blake Hayman (1852-1928)
whom he married about 1875. She was the daughter of Daniel Webster Hayman &
Mary Elizabeth Lewark. This union produced 7 children.

in Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk.

Ella
Frances Tillett, daughter of Benjamin Dough Tillett and his 4th
wife, Almira Blake Hayman, was born in Kitty Hawk on Aug. 11, 1879
and died in Norfolk, Va. on April 3, 1955. Ella married George Washington O'Neal at Colington,
NC on Feb. 23, 1905. George W. O'Neal, the son of Evan
O'Neal and Mary Susan Whitson, was born at Nags Head on Feb.
22, 1877 and died in Elizabeth City, NC on Mar. 23, 1967. [see
obit] Ella & George are buried in the
Austin Cemetery at Kitty Hawk.
They had the following children:
1) Hester
Odell Tillett (1901-1970) married Celia Richard Gray.
Hester was Ella's son by a previous relationship.
2) Melvin
Gold Tillett (1904-1991) married Mary Holland Sanderlin. Melvin was listed as
a Tillett and "adopted" in 1910. He was
buried as an O'Neal.
3) Eva Leola O'Neal (1905-1993)
married Leon Hardy Perry
4) Oscar
Delton O'Neal (1907-1938) married Mary Florence Hughes
5) Carl Clifton O'Neal (1909-1909)
6) Alvah Elbert O'Neal (1912-1977) married Sadie Valentine Brice
7) Mitchell Howard O'Neal
(1917- ) married Muriel Weed, Doris Hanson &
Ena
