Benjamin Dough & Almira (Hayman) Tillett

Benjamin Dough Tillett was born in Kitty Hawk, Currituck County, on April 28, 1840 to Samuel Avery Tillett, Sr. & Sarah Mariah (Beacham) Tillett.  Ben first married Lovey Walker on Sept. 29, 1859 and they had one child: Avery Benjamin Love "Belove" Tillet [see his photo here].  Although no marriage license has been found, it has been said that Ben was married a second time to Sallie Ann Midgett (died 1867) and that they had 1 child: Sallie Ann Belinda Tillett (1867-1897).  Ben was married for the third time on Sept. 14, 1868 to Mary Frances Midgett and no children were produced from this union.  Ben's last wife was Almira Blake Hayman (1852-1928) whom he married about 1875.  She was the daughter of Daniel Webster Hayman & Mary Elizabeth Lewark.  This union produced 7 children.
     1. Mary Love Tillett (1876-1961) married Charles Bailey Perry
     2. Ella Frances Tillett (1879-1955) married George Washington O'Neal
     3. Alphonso D. Tillett (1881-1954) married Lenora L. Harris
     4. William Lewis Tillett (1883-1958) married Helen Frances Stetson
     5. Curtis Delton Tillett (1886-1902)
     6. Virginia Dare Tillett (1890-1979) married Samuel Broadrick Beasley
     7. Almira D. Tillett (1896-1969) married James E. Bristo O'Neal, Sr.

Benjamin & Almira are both buried in Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk
