Peter Gregory & Caroline (Daniels) Gallop


Peter Gregory Gallop, oldest son of Benjamin G. Gallop & Director (Gregory) Gallop, was born Sept. 21, 1843 in Harbinger, Currituck Co., NC.  He died in Dare Co. on Dec. 24, 1921.  Caroline W. Daniels, daughter of Charles Skinner Daniels and Elizabeth "Betsy" Basnight, was born in Wanchese, NC (now Dare Co.) on Oct. 20, 1848.  She died April 22, 1918. Peter was the census taker for the 1870 Dare Co. census.  According to the 1900 & 1910 Dare Co., NC census Peter & Caroline were married circa 1864.  Peter's occupation was a lighthouse keeper.  He was assistant keeper at Roanoke Island Marshes Lighthouse from  1873-74 and was keeper from 1874-78.  He was keeper for the Bodie Island Light (years unknown) but was transferred to the Bouy Depot in Washington, NC in 1906.  Peter & Caroline were blessed with 10 children:
   1) infant daughter Gallop  (July 28, 1866 - died days later)
   2) Isadora Gallop (May 9, 1868 - Aug. 16, 1960)
   3) Beatrice Bunch Gallop (Sept. 17, 1870 - June 25, 1898)
   4) Colinda Alice Gallop (Nov. 12, 1873 - Aug. 15, 1945); Death certificate & Bible record state her birth in 1872. Tombstone states 1873]
   5) Eliza Gertrude Gallop (Sept. 19, 1874 - Sept. 19, 1968)
   6) Martha Anne Elizabeth Gallop (Aug. 31, 1877 - Dec. 27, 1962)
   7) Lillie Wilson Gallop (May 28, 1879 - Sept. 7, 1969)
   8) Marvin Leslie Gallop (Sept. 30. 1881 - Aug. 17, 1951)
   9) Ezekiel Roscoe Gallop (Apr. 25, 1884 - Dec. 9, 1968)
 10) Carrie Leland Gallop (July 5, 1888 - Aug. 9, 1971)
