McBRAYER / WILLIAMS
I am trying to find info on HANNAH McBRAYER WILLIAMS and her family. Hannah was the daughter of Samuel Marion McBrayer and CB "Campie" Weddington, and sister to my Great Grandmother, Nancy Ella Agness McBrayer May. She was born 7/18/1874 and died 5/1968 in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC. I do not know the name of her husband other than he was a Williams. In August of 1953 Hannah lived in Lindale, GA,127E St., as did her sister Jeanie McBrayer. I have a copy of a newspaper article from then. It tells a story of how these two sisters were reunited with their sister, Nancy Ella Agnes McBrayer May after being apart for 45 years. At the time this article was written Hannah was a retired employee of Pepperell and Jeanie was employed there and had been for some 52 years.

HANNAH McBRAYER WILLIAMS had other siblings. They were: Andrew McBrayer, Charlie McBrayer, Perle McBrayer & Grady McBrayer. The only one I know anything about is Grady and all I know about him is he was still living at the time of Nancy Ella's death. This was Oct 1955 and he lived in Atlanta, GA. Thanks in advance for any info. Sherry in Alabama Posted August 7, 2000

CULBRETH
I'm trying to get info on my great grandfather who is buried along with my grandfather and father in Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville, NC. His name on the grave marker says John Culbreth and he was born Oct. 1, 1818 and died Jan. 1, 1890 at age 72. Evidently alot of the records during this time were burned in a court house fire....we think he may have come over from Scotland at some point in time and may have been called Galbraith instead of Culbreth. My grandfather, John Henry Culbreth, Sr. and my father John Henry, Jr. are buried in this same cemetery. I know he was a member of the Presbyterian Church in the Cross Creek area. Any help you can give me on where to go would be a great help. Have a great day.

NORTHINGTON / MCKINNEY / JONES
My GGGG Grandparents are Michael NORTHINGTON and Nancy McKINNEY. They were married March 3, 1803 in CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC, USA.

Michael is the son of Samuel Northington IV and Mary JONES. The previous Northingtons were from SURRY/SUSSEX COUNTIES VA and seem to have come into Cumberland County NC approximately 1750.

From the minutes of the Cumberland County NC Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for April 1779-January 1791 (Jan. 28, 1779) : are two deeds from JOHN ROBESON and his wife (ELIZABETH) to MATTHEW McKINNEY and the deed is proved by S. NORTHINGTON.

Families which seem to be allied in Cumberland County are JONES, McNEILL, EDMUNDS, STERLING, BRIGGS, and possibly BLOUNT/BLUNT.

One Northington Homeplace which belonged to one of the many Northington men, probably not Michael but his Grandad or Uncle, etc. is located in the "Raven Rock State Park" in Lillington NC, in what is now Harnett County. The site includes the Northington Road and the Northington Ferry across the Cape Fear River.

Two Northington men marry McKinney women in Cumberland County (Michael and Nancy 1803, Jesse Northington and Patsey McKinney 1809).

Two Northington women marry McNeill men in Cumberland County (Malcolm McNeill and Grizella Northington 1822, Joseph McNeill and Winnie Northington 1808).

Michael Northington and Nancy McKinney Northington (along with Michael's Father Samuel and other members of the family including McKinneys) came to the ROARING SPRINGS area, CHRISTIAN/TRIGG COUNTIES KY approximately 1808. Some family members also settled in MONTGOMERY/ROBERTSON COUNTY TN including PORT ROYAL TN.

Their first born is Sarah (Sally) Northington who is my GGG Grandmother, the wife of WILLIAM HENRY JOHNSON of TODD COUNTY KENTUCKY.

THE FOCUS OF THIS MESSAGE: is my endeavor to find the parents, grandparents and further ancestral parents of NANCY McKINNEY.

Can you please help me with this quest?

Secondary to the above message, I am asking if you know about the McKinney, McKinnon, McKinnish connection in Cumberland County NC.

My name is Barbara Garrett and I work at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

Best Regards, Barbara Garrett    Posted July 17th, 2000

MCLEOD / PATTERSON
My sister and I have been working on our McLeod family history and have run against a stone wall in finding information on our gggrandfather, Murdoch McLEOD. The earliest information places him in Barbecue Township, Cumberland Co, NC, an area that became a part of Harnett Co in 1855. There seems to have been several Murdochs in Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett and Moore Cos, along with Neills, Johns, Daniels and other given names prominent in our family.

According to the Harnett County Census records for 1860 our Murdoch was born around 1791, married Margaret PATTERSON sometime in the early 1800s, and had a son, Neill, born in 1828. Have been unable to learn anything about his parents, where he was born, whether there were siblings, possible relationship to other known McLeods in the area, etc. Thanks!
