My Marks family goes back to 1824 with Zachius Marks. Thus far no information has surfaced as to his
parentage.  Although he lived next door to Willis Marks and very close to Mary Marks. If anyone can help
with how these families are related

Mary Marks shows up on the 1850 (Lower Regiment) & 1860 (Middle Division), Chatham County census,
living virtually next door to the Zachius Marks family.  She is listed as 81 years old. In the same household
are Lucinda H. Marks (age 35, b. ca. 1815 NC) and Louiza A. Marks (age 13, b. ca. 1837 NC). In a deed
dated July 5, 1855 it states that “William H. Marks and Lucian H. Marks sons of Zacheus Marks” “that the
said Mary Marks hath this day for and inconsideration of the natural affection, together with the
sum of one dollar to her in hand paid by the said William H and Lucian H. Marks, doth hereby convey grant
and give for the above consideration unto the said William H and Lucian H Marks all her rights and title to
the tract of land on which she now lives, except the House and Lot, as long as she may live. The house
and lot then to be used by her daughter Lucinda Marks as long as she may think proper to occupy it”.

Willis Marks was born circa 1810 NC and shows up in the 1840 & 1850 Chatham County, NC census
records as a farmer living next door to Zachius.  His children are listed as: Mary – b. 1832 NC, Thomas B. –
b. 1834 NC, Francis - b. 1836 NC, Samuel – b.1838 NC, Calvin – b. 1840 NC
