Chatham County, North Carolina
Guardian Account- Hannah Stokes

By Her Guardian, Archaleus Carloss

Here is what I found on this guardian account. Judy Penrod Purcell  is related to Hannah through Susannah Stokes, aunt of Hannah.
Hannah married  Robert Carloss, the son of Archaleus, on 22 Jan. 1824, and secondly she married George Shutt in 1830, after Robert died in 1827.

The rent of the Lands and the higher (hire) of the negroes was returned
into court for the year 1819 when I redeemed the account current for the
year 1818 as my be plainly seen.

I don't find an account for the years 1820 - 1822.

 On pg. 190 & 191 is:

Hannah Hill Stokes in account current with Archelaus Carloss, her
 guardian - Dec. 21, 1823

(First entry has no date and there are years missing here. I wonder if
there is another book that has the missing years of accounts. The
guardians were required by law to file an account of the estate every
year. So, we are talking 2 years of accounts here that are not filed.
I will double check the film for entries that I might have missed. It is
 such a faded film.

This is all there is on the account. And, usually there, is a final
account when the child marries or becomes of age. So, I really think
there is more, somewhere or it is just missing.
This doesn't help  much with genealogy but knowing that her parents
had land in VA and that she may have attended school in Raleigh, might
give a clue to work with. And, I love the little details of the
clothing and costs of every day things that make them come to life.
