Mr. Thomas created the information below about the 37 men listed in the "Jacock Letter". He's sharing this, and welcomes anyone's input on these individuals. In his thorough research he reviewed:
1)compiled service records of Bertie's two militia companies 1. Jacocks/Iredell/Hogg Company and 2. Bryan/Pugh Company that were called into Federal service.
2)Microfilm registers of enlistments for regular U.S. Army soldiers who enlisted during the War of 1812 era.
3)Available Pension files for the soldiers whom I have initially identified as Bertie County natives and/o residents, as well as men from neighboring counties who enlisted at Windsor in regular army units during the war.
Captain Copeland Captain Jesse Copeland (Perquimans County) commissioned in 10th U.S. Infantry on March 12, 1812; died November 30, 1813. The Raleigh Minerva reported on April 24, 1812, "We are enabled to state that Col. Jesse Copeland of Perquimans County , has accented the appointment of Captain in the new army. The military talents and acknowledged bravery are too highly appreciated to need any economium of ours." In March 1839, the 25th Congress passed an act that authorized "the settlement of the accounts of the heirs of Captain Jesse Copeland." "Be it enacted, that the proper accounting officers be authorized amounts to adjust and settle according to the principles of justice and equity, the claims of the heirs of Jesse Copeland, late a captain in the army of the United Stated, and if any balance shall be found due to said heirs from the United States the Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized to pay the same to them out of any money not otherwise appropriated."
Everard Garrett, Private, born Bertie County, enlisted March 30, 1812, in Capt Jesse Copeland's company (location of enlistment not disclosed by extant records.) Please note that Lt. George Vashon (later Captain) assumed command of Copeland's company after the latter's death in late November 1813. Private Garrett was transferred to Capt Britton's company in Aug 1814. Hertford County NC listed as a Lieutenant in the Eighth Company of detached militia (Hertford County) per page 7 of the published NC muster rolls for the War of 1812.
John M. Brickell Listed as a Private on an October 1813 muster roll of Augustin Pugh's Bertie County artillery company. 1st Regiment )McCotter's) North Carolina Militia (Detached) who "enlisted" Enlisted on July 31, 1812 as a Private in Captain Bryant's company 10th U.S. Infantry.

Saml Rogers Martin County; enlisted as a private on August 1, 1812 in Captain Bryant's company. 10th US Infantry
Rian Cale Bertie County; enlisted for U.S. Army service on August 21, 1812 per a recruiting certificate dated "NC Aug 1, 1812" No further information found.
Josiah Brantly Bertie County; enlisted for U.S. Army service in August 1812. Reported present with an undisclosed army unit at Philadelphia PA on February 28, 1815 as the "private waiter to Lt. Wood." No further information found.

Elias Hawkins Bertie County; enlisted on August 8, 1812 as a private in Captain Bryant's company 10th U.S. Infantry.
Jasper Buck Bertie County enlisted for U.S. Army service on August 13, 1812 per a recruiting certificate dated "NC July 31, 1812" [Note - dates aren't logical; certificate date is before enlistment date] No further information found.
Williamson Lawrence Bertie County; enlisted for U.S. Army service on August 13, 1812 per a recruiting certificate dated "NC Aug 13.12." No further information found.
Wm Francis Tyrell County; enlisted as a Private in Captain W.A. Blount's company. 18th U.S. Infantry and served 5 years until August 7, 1817; his term of enlistment having expired.
James F. James Bertie County; full name was James Frederick James, "a man of colour". Enlisted for U.S. Army service on August 17, 1813 per a recruiting certificate dated "NC Aug 17, 1813". No further information found.
Joseph Selby [Selvy] Private, born Hyde County, enlisted June 26, 1812, in Capt Copeland's company at Edenton for 5 years. No further information found. (Command of Copeland's company devolved to Capt Vashon after Copeland's death) Source: Recrod Group 98, entry 198, Company Book for Capt George Vashon 1813-185, 10th U.S. Infantry.
No pension or bounty land warrant records found for this individual. A "Joseph Selby" is listed as a deserter from the Army, but no other information found.
Thomas Allen A Thomas Allen born Currituck County enlisted on July 4, 1812, for U.S. Army service per a recruiting certificate "dated NC 7/4/12" No further information found.
Zadoc Haste Bertie County; enlisted on July 4, 1812 as a Private in Captain Copeland's company. Apparently he was a chronic deserter. According to the Edenton Gazette of December 15, 1812, he along with Joseph Lawrence [Bertie County' and Miles Collins -- three deserters from the 10th U.S. Infantry -- were brought into Edenton on December 10, 1812, and delivered to an Ensign Jones. Haste's service record shows he deserted on July 26, 1813; he apparently returned to his company (date not disclosed) and again deserted on December 31, 1813 at Elizabeth City. He "gave himself up" to Captain Pollard of the 20th U.S. Infantry at Norfolk (date not disclosed) No further information found.
Elisha Harrell A Private Elisah Harrell of the 8th US Infantry was discharged in January 1814 at Fort Hawkins, Macon, GA on account of the "forefinger o fleft hand useless and inability of mind." Insufficient information available from records to ascertain if this Private Harrell was the same man to whome Jacocks referred.
Henry Morris A Henry Morris enlisted in the U.s. Rifles at Fort Hampton, Beauford, Carteret County on August 29, 1812. Insufficient information available in Morris' record and Jacocks' letter to ascertain if the enlistee was the same person to whom Jacocks referred.

Corbin Jones Born Tyrell County: Private in Captain Copeland's Company. 10th U.S. Infantry. Per the Edenton Gazette of Setp 1, 1812 "deserted from Tarboro on or about the 25th of August. Corgan Jones, born in Tyreell County, aged 27 years....and by profession a farmer. Any person securing said deserter and delivering him to me in Tabroro or to an officer commanding a post or detachment in the United States, shall receive the above reward [$10]. Jesse Copeland, Captain. U.S. Infantry.

The only "Francis Alexander" I found in military records for the War of 1812 era was a Private Alexander in the U.S. Artillery who was born in Cornwall, Connecticut and enlisted on September 30, 1814 at Sackett's Harbor, NY
