{"id":554,"date":"2010-06-10T10:50:37","date_gmt":"2010-06-10T15:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/washington\/?p=554"},"modified":"2010-06-10T12:50:48","modified_gmt":"2010-06-10T17:50:48","slug":"college-grads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/washington\/college-grads\/","title":{"rendered":"College Grads from Washington County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new resource for the NCGenWeb project is an index of students from North Carolina colleges &amp; universities. \u00c2\u00a0Yearbooks are wonderful sources for learning more about your ancestors and their activities during their college years.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb-data.com\/ybook\" target=\"_blank\">NC Yearbook Index<\/a> is a searchable database of students (mostly graduating seniors) from schools across the state. \u00c2\u00a0The index currently includes more than 16,000 names and focuses largely on the yearbooks from 1930 and earlier. \u00c2\u00a0In each case, the yearbooks are available in their entirety online via the efforts of the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve found relatives so far in the yearbooks, maybe you&#8217;ll find some too! To see the list of students explicitly identified as coming from Washington County,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb-data.com\/ybook\/resultlist.php?county=washington&amp;state=NC\" target=\"_blank\"> go here<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Surnames include Ayers, Blount, Brinkley, Chesson, Latham, \u00c2\u00a0Norman, Spurill, Swain, Walker and more.<\/p>\n<p>For example, here is the entry for<a href=\"http:\/\/www.taneya-kalonji.com\/family\/getperson.php?personID=I732&amp;tree=6\" target=\"_blank\"> Alice Walker Phelps<\/a>, \u00c2\u00a0daughter of former Washington County sheriff John L.
