A. CHESSON, Chairman; Jos. SKITTLETHARPE and J.M. REID.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Minutes of last meeting read and approved.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Sanford L. SEXTON<\/strong> be granted retail liquor license to retail spirituous and malt liquors in quantities of five gallons or less, in Scuppernong township, about one mile from Creswell on the public road leading from Newland to Creswell, for the term of five months commencing from this date and ending on the 31<sup>st<\/sup> day of December 1899.<\/li>\n<li>In accordance with Chay. 214, Laws of 1893, as amended by Chap. 201, Laws of 1897, authorizing or commanding the Board of County Commissioners to elect a County  Superintendent of Health on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Monday in May of each year, and by an oversight of this Board the said law was not complied with on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Monday in May last. \u00c2\u00a0It is now, on motion ordered that the election of a County Superintendent of Health be made as of the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Monday in May 1895. \u00c2\u00a0The name of <strong>Dr. W.H. WARD<\/strong> being suggested, and there being no other nominations, the said Dr. W.H. WARD was declared duly elected as County Superintendent of Health for Washington county for the term of 12 months from and after the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Monday in May 1899.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Angelo SPRUILL <\/strong>be allowed to list his poll and property for the year 1899 to the Sheriff, and be released of double tax.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Mrs. Mary E. DAVENPORT<\/strong> be allowed to list her property for the year 1899 to the Sheriff, and be released of double tax.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Amos B. BARNES<\/strong> be allowed to list his poll tax and property for the year 1899 to the Sheriff and be released of poll tax.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>W.A. ALEXANDER<\/strong> be allowed to list a tract of land in Scuppernong township for the year 1898 to the Sheriff and be released of double tax on same, being 126 acres of land valued at $200.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Jno. L. PHELPS<\/strong>, Sheriff, be allowed the sum of $38.25 his account for feeding jail prisoners, turnkeys, &amp;c., as per account filed for July 1899.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>W.J. MERCER<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $20.70, his account for 8 days service as assessor and copying abstracts in Scuppernong township, and one day meeting with the Board County Commissioners for instructions and mileage.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that Skittletharpe &amp; Cooper be allowed the sum of $15.75, their account for supplies furnished to poor house, outside poor and jail for July 1899.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>C.J. SPEAR<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $10, his account for 5 days services taking tax list in Scuppernong township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that the Roanoke Beacon be allowed the sum of $3, account for publishing proceedings of the Board for July 1890.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>James STEWART<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $11.50, his account for 5 \u00c2\u00bd days labor painting Mackey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Ferry bridge.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Jno. C. GURGANUS<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $8.12, his account for 1 month services as keeper of poor house and making 4 pillow slips.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>W.H. STUBBS<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $62.07, his account for services as Clerk Board County Commissioners and for other services or fees, and cash paid for 25 loads wood, binding 1 tax book, &amp;c., as per account filed.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>A.W. AMBROSE<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $8.60, his account for conveying <strong>Africa BLOUNT<\/strong> from Creswell to county jail, 56 miles at 5c., 2 meals for BLOUNT, and lockup fees in Creswell.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>R.P. BARNES<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $2.80, his account for conveying <strong>Will FREEMAN<\/strong> and <strong>Bettie ARNOLD<\/strong> from Roper to county jail, and conveying <strong>Cottie SKITTLETHARPE<\/strong> from Reddick WARD place to poor house.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>W.L. LUCAS<\/strong> be allowed the sum of 60c., his account for summoning 20 hands to work on road Sec. 5, Plymouth township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Levin WATSON<\/strong> be allowed the sum of 57c his account for summoning 20 hands to work on road Sec. 7 Plymouth township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>J.W. JOHNSTON<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $1.80 his account for summoning 20 hands 3 times to work on road Sec. 14 Plymouth township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Jno. A. MCNAIR<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $1.78, his account for summoning 13 hands twice to work on road Sec. 10 Plymouth township, and making and putting up 4 finger boards on said Sec.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>J.F. SWAIN<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $1.23, his account for summoning 20 hands twice to work on road Sec 2 Lees Mills township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>W.L. ROBERTSON<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $1.20, his account for summoning 20 hands twice to work on road Sec. 7 Lees Mills township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>Luther SITTERSON<\/strong> be allowed the sum of $1.14, his account for summoning 18 hands at one time, and 20 hands at another time to work on road Sec. 11 Lees Mills township.<\/li>\n<li>Ordered that <strong>B.W.
