Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions


April Session 1825

Sally Wynne came into open court & declared her willingness that Joseph Hallsey be appointed administrator to Selby Wynne deceased. Whereupon it is ordered that Joseph Hallsey be appointed administrator on the estate of said deceased & that he give bond in the sum of four thousand dollars with John Beasley & Jeremiah Wynne his securities.

Ordered that Jeremiah Wynne, Robert Wynne, Wilson B. Hodges, John Haughton & Baldwin W. Hallsey Esqr. be appointed commissioners to lay off one years rovision to Sarah Wynne widow of Selby Wye out of the estate of the said deceased.

October Session 1825

Ordered that Jordan Davenport be appointed guardian to George Frederick Benjamin & Jeremiah Wynne minor orphans of Selby Wynne deceased who came into court & entered into bond in the sum of three hundred pound, with Richard Lucas & Joseph Hallsey his securities.

April Session 1827

Ordered that Jeremiah H. Phelps Burton Hathaway, & Daniel N. Bateman be appointed commissioners to audite & settle the estate of Selby Wyne deceased in account with Joseph Halsey the administrator & report to next term.

July Session 1827

Ordered that Jeremiah H. Phelps, Alexander Dillen & David M. Sergent or any two of them be sppointed to audite the account of estate of Selby Wynne with the administrator and report to the next term.

October Session 1827

Ordered that Jeremiah H. Phelps, Alexander Dillen & Enoch Hassell be appointed auditors to settle the estate of Selby Wynne with the administrator Jos. Halsey.

January Session 1828

Ordered that J. H. Phelps, Alexander Dillen & James Howcott be appointed auditors to audite and settle the estate of Selby Wynne with the administrator Jos. Hallsey.

July Session 1828

Ordered that J. H. Phelps, Alexander Dillen & Enoch Hassell be appointed auditors to settle the estate of Selby Wynne with the administrator Jos. Hallsey.

October Session 1828

The audited account of Selby Wyne deceased was returned by the administrator Jos. Halsey with a balance due the estate of $58.53.

Undated certificate in 1825 by the court stating that Selby Wynne has died intestate and it has been suggested that the estate of the said Salby is in perishable condition and requires the immediate attention of same discreet person. The court therefore appoints Joseph Halsey as special administrator of the estate of Selby Wynne.

Bond dated 24 Feb 1825 in the amount of two thousand dollars appointing Joseph Halsey special administrator of the estate of Selby Wynne deceased, Jeremiah Wynne & Wilson B. Hodges securities.

Bond dated 25 Apr 1825 in the amount of four thousand dollars appointing Joseph Halsey administrator of the estate of Selby Wynne deceased, John B. Beasley & Jeremiah Wynne securities.

Undated petition of Sarah Davenport stating that she was the wife of Selby Wynne late of Tyrrell County and that he died seized and possessed of 50 acres of land on the west side of Scuppernong River between the lands of Starky Hassell & D. M. Sargeant and she has never been alloted her dower in this land. She is now the wife of and prays the court issue an order to lay off her dower in this land.

Laying off of the dower on 14 Jun 1834 of the dower of Sarah Wynne widow of Selby Wynne now wife of Jordan Davenport in the lands of Selby Wynne. The acreage layed off is not mentioned but neighbors are Jordan Davenport & Starky Hassell. Disinterested freeholders appointed as jurors are Henry Alexander, Daniel N. Bateman, Matthias Owens, Silas Davenport, Thomas H. Alexander, Joshua Spruill, Clement M. Spruill, Burton Hathaway, Silas Wynne, Thomas Lewis, Pledger Melson & Frederick Davenport.
