My name is Tracy Stancill and I am researching my DAVENPORT lineage. I have traced back to Isaac and Elizabeth Hawkins DAVENPORT who I believe are my seventh great grandparents. Elizabeth HAWKINS DAVENPORT was the daughter of James HAWKINS who was deceased by Dec. 1752. Are there any Davenport researchers out there who know anything about this Isaac and Elizabeth DAVENPORT? DAVENPORT/ALEXANDER
23 March 2004 FROM haroldns@aol.com(D. Harold Davenport)

I have a deed dated Sept.8, 1859 in which my great grandparents James Madison DAVENPORT and his wife Celia Ann Spruill DAVENPORT sell a one-half share in the undivided lands of Gideon ALEXANDER, dec. to Jesse DAVIS. This deed is in the Washington County Courthouse. Gideon ALEXANDER's will is in the Tyrrell Courthouse. His will gives his widow, Mary, lifetime rights to the land she lives on. Gideon died in 1839 and his will was probated in 1840. From census records he would have been between 70 and 80 when he died. His will lists daughters Mary, Fanny, Nancy and Clarky. From Tyrrell county marriage bonds none of these ladies married a DAVENPORT. At least the first time. James Madison DAVENPORT's mother was named Nancy and when Gideon ALEXANDER died she was 55. If Gideon was closer to 80 than 70 when he died she could have been his daughter. Nancy ?? DAVENPORT died before 1860 and this probablly explains why her son was selling the share. Do any of my Alexander cousins have any light they could shed on this mystery? D. Harold Davenport

EDWARDS
19 April 2004 FROM zuzu93@nebnet.net(Susan Holsan )

I am trying to find out information for a John EDWARDS b. 1782 in NC. He married Philiss BASNIGHT in 1807 or 1809 in Tyrrell County, NC. Their daughter Kesiah was my 2nd great grandmother. Except for a record concerning this marriage, I cannot seem to find anything on John EDWARDS. I am interested in knowing if he had siblings and if he is connected to any of the EDWARDS clan located in the Madison and St. Clair counties areas in Illinois. He and his four known children migrated to near-by Jackson County in Illinois where many of his descendents remained for several years. If anyone has information on any of this EDWARDS bunch, I would be very interested in hearing from you.

EDWARDS
14 March 2006 FROM zuzu93@nebnet.net(Susan Holsan)

I am now fairly certain that Jacob EDWARDS was the father to my John Edwards b. 1782 in NC married to Philiss/Phyllis BASNIGHT in 1807 in Tyrrell Co. I believe that John had at least one brother, Enoch, and possibly another, Thomas, but have no concrete proof. Looking for anyone that might be connected to this EDWARDS line. Where was Jacob from? Was he born in the US or an immigrant from possibly Wales?? Any info would be greatly appreciated as I keep hitting a brickwall with this branch of my family!

EDWARDS
4 April 2009 FROM zuzu93@nebnet.net(Susan Holsan)

I am still trying to find info on my John EDWARDS b. 1782 in NC. He married Philiss/Phillis BASNIGHT in Tyrrell Co., NC - she was b. in Tyrrell Co. His father believed to be Jacob EDWARDS and John may have had a brother Enoch. I read something once that there was an Edwards line in NC that was believed to be Jewish. Does anyone know anything regarding this? There is an old weaving loom in the family that has a star of David on one of the shuttles. So, I am just curious if any of this may be true or just a speculation that was once posted online.

ELLIS
5 December 1998 FROM HPFV98A@prodigy.com (W. F. Ellis)

I am looking for any records or information regarding David ELLIS. Our family oral history has it that he was born in England in the early 1800's, was a King appointed hangman in London, a Merchant Ship's Master and eventually owned a 500 acre farm in Tyrell County in the 1860's. The farm retained the title "The Old Ellis Farm" for many years after his death in ~1867. His widow Adeline ( maiden name BAILEY) Ellis lost the farm due to non payment of taxes ~1869. They had three children; Franklin Dobbson ELLIS, John ELLIS and a girl (first name unknown). Franklin Dobbson ELLIS, my grandfater, died in the late 1930's. Franklin Dobbson ELLIS (called "Dobby") became a foster child of The SWAINS of Tyrell Co. and Adeline lived in the BAILEY household with the other two children, John ELLIS and his sister. We know that the 1929 Depression ruined Franklin Dobbson ELLIS and we suspect that the Civil war had something to do with David ELLIS' loss of his farm (and his subsequent death?). Anyway we would like to find out what we can about David, Adeline John and the girl. Thank you!

Looking for family of Daniel FISHER who married Julia ARMSTRONG, daughter of John Hardin ARMSTRONG and Mary Swain ARMSTRONG. I think he was from NC and came west to KY thence to southern Indiana with the ARMSTRONG family in about 1800. Daniel FISHER may have been born around 1775 or so. Daniel Fisher, born 1774, Tyrrell County, married Julia ARMSTRONG, born 1782, Tyrrell County. Both died in S. Indiana, Daniel in 1811 at the Battle of Tippecanoe, Julia later. Reference source says Daniel's Fisher family owned sailing ships that traded all along the eastern seabord as well as in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Julia's parents also were from seafaring families: John ARMSTRONG, sailor, and Mary SWAIN, whose family also had had whaling ships in Nantucket. Can anyone help me with Daniel FISHER's family? I am looking for any information anyone may have on a Charles FORNELSON Sr. and an Airs? Since this is such an unusual name, and only appears in early tax records of Somerset County, Maryland {William Fornelson}, and Military, Land, Tax/Census, and Court records for present day Randolph County, West Virginia, {Charles Fornelson Sr., Elisha, Joseph and John Fornelson} and in records for Ouachita province, LA for Elisha Fornelson, I am guessing they are all related.
