Tweedy, Jonathan, 1849

Promissory note to pay Jonathan Tweedy, guardian of Henry Holmes, the sum of $138.75 after one year for hire of negro man March for the year 1849. Signed by William Morris, J. W. Parker & S. G. Salyear.

Bond dated 23 Jul 1849 in the amount of $12,000 appointing John A. Brickhouse administrator of the estate of Jonathan Tweedy deceased, Chas. McClees & Jos. Alexander securities.

Petition July Term 1849 of Uni Tweedy, widow of Jonathan Tweedy deceased, who shows that Jonathan Tweedy, the late husband of your petitioner, died about April last leaving your petitioner unprovided for. The said Jonathan Tweedy left a considerable personal property out of which petitioner is entitled to a year's maintenance for herself and family. She prays a court order for the laying off of her year's support.

Commissioners Report filed at October Term of 1849 of the laying off of the year's allowance for Unice Tweedy, widow of Jonathan Tweedy deceased, by Jesse Sanderson, J. P. and John McClees, A. H. Smith & J. W. Parker. No provisions being found, she is allotted $316.30 which is to be paid the widow by the administrator of Jonathan Tweedy, John A. Brickhouse.

The 1830 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Janathan Tweedy with 1 male under 5, 1 male 20 - 30, 1 female under 5 and 1 female 30 - 40.

The 1840 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Jonathan Tweedy with 1 male 10 - 15, 1 male 30 - 40, 1 female 10 - 15, 1 female 15 - 20 and 1 female 40 - 50.

The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Ashby Owens (35), Unis Owens (53), Joseph Owens (12), Thomas S. Owens (9), Sarah O. Owens (2) and Harriet Owens (17).

See the 1827 will of Joseph Ansley. Unice Tweedy is a devisee in his will.
