May Session 1808

Joseph Traverse acknowledged in court a bill of sale or a deed of gift for all his property to his two children James Traverse & Rosanah Traverse ordered registered.

November Session 1808

Ordered that Ann Traverse have leave of administration on the estate of Joseph Traverse deceased also by her request that Solomon Hassell Junr. have leave to administer on the above estate with her and have given bond in the sum of one thousand pounds Eliakim Swain & Joshua Hassell securities.

Ordered that the administrators of Joseph Traverse have leave to sell the chattel property of Joseph Traverse deceased and make return next court.

Ordered that John Hassell John Tarkenton and Joseph Hassell be appointed to lay off a years allowance to Ann Traverse out of the estate of Joseph Traverse deceased also Joseph Ansley.

February Session 1809

Solomon Hassell Esqr. returned in court on oath the account of sales which was also returned as an inventory of the estate of Joseph Traverse filed.

He also returned the years allowance made to the widdow of Joseph Traverse of the estate of said deceased as follows viz. 8 barrels corn @ 25/ 500 lb fresh pork @ 40/ 1 barrel salt @ 15/ 15 lb sugar @ 1/6 5 lb coffee @ 4/6 12 lb fatt @ 1/3 1 barrel flour @ 60/ filed.

March Session 1810

Ordered that the administrators of Joseph Traverse have leave to sell a negroe girl named Linda it appearing that there is no other property sufficient to satisfy the debt.

Ordered that Ann Traverse be allowed out of the estate of Joseph Traverse twelve pounds for the maintaing her three children till the present term.

December Session 1810

Solomon Hassell Esqr. returned in court an account of sales of the estate of Joseph Traverse to amount of 91 pounds, 13 shillings & 6 pence.

April Session 1811

Ordered that Ann Traverse be allowed twelve pounds up to the present time for the maintenance of her two children it being for one year.

Ordered that Levi Batman Esqr. John Hassell & Joseph Hassell audite the accounts of Joseph Traverse with the administrators and make due returns to next term.

October Session 1811

Solomon Hassell Esquire returned in court the audited account of the estate of Joseph Traverse on which a ballance appears due from the administrator to the estate of said deceased file 10 pounds & 3 shillings.

April Session 1812

Ordered that Ann Traverse be allowed ten pounds for supporting two children up to this date.

Traverse (Travis), Joseph, 1808


Bond dated 8 Nov 1808 in the amount of one thousand pounds in which Ann Traverse is appointed administrator of the estate of Joseph Traverse deceased, Solomon Hassell Junr., Elicum Swain & Joshua Hassel securities.

Years allowance of Ann Travis widow of Jos. Travis deceased layed off on 3 Feb 1809 by John Hassell, John Tarkinton, Joseph Hassell & Jos. Ansley.

Execution dated 9 Apr 1811 and issued 12 Apr 1811 against the goods and chattels lands and tenements of Joseph Traverse & Abraham Swain for 13 pounds, 8 shillings & 9 pence which Moses E. Cator recovered against them for debt as Joseph Traverse administrator and Abram Swain stand convicted.

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Joseph Traverse to Ann Swain on 10 Jun 1801, Joseph Tarkinton security.
The above records show there were two children named James & Roseanah. A survey of Tyrrell County marriage bonds show Any Travers marrying Anthony Ward on 2 Feb 1833 and Nancy Travis marrying Henry Alexander on 27 Jul 1840. Also James Travis marrying Magena Roughton on 23 Jul 1838 and James Travis marrying Patsey McKimmey on 7 Mar 1848.
