Sawyer, Isaac, 1848
Petition January Term 1849 of Mary Sawyer, widow of Isaac Sawyer, who shows that her late husband, Isaac Sawyer, died seized and possessed of 40 acres joining Thos. & Joseph Alexander. He left surviving him as heirs at law Asa Ward and wife Sarah, Simeon Rhodes and wife Susan, Daniel W. Roughton and wife Mary, Josiah Sawyer & Mary Sawyer. Petitioner shows she is entitled as his widow to dower in said land and prays an order to set it off to her. Service of petition accepted by Daniel W. Roughton, Mary Roughton, Joanna Sawyer, Asa Ward & Sarrow Ward.
Petition January Term 1849 of Mary Sawyer, widow of Isaac Sawyer, who shows that her husband died seized and possessed of considerable personal chattel property out of which she is entitled to a year's provision for herself and family. Selby Patrick qualified as administrator of the estate of Isaac Patrick at October Term 1848. She prayse an order for her year's allowance to be set off to her.
Court order the 4th Monday in April 1849 for the laying off of the dower of Mary Sawyer in the lands of her deceased husband, Isaac Sawyer.

Laying off of the dower of Mary Sawyer, widow of Isaac Sawyer. in the lands of her deceased husband on 19 June 1849 by Jordan L. Jones, Sheriff, and James Holmes, Thos. J. Man, A. H. Smith, John A. Brickhous, James Tweedy, Joseph Twidy, James Basnight, Elijah Basnight, William J. Beasley, King Hackett, Trimagan Sandlin & Michael Minchee, commissioners. She received the widow's third joining William Sawyer.
Petition October Term 1853 of William Morris administrator de bonis non of Isaac Sawyer who shows that the estate of his said intestate is unequal to the payment of debts by about $96, that there is not enough in his hands to pay the widow's year's allowance and that said intestate died seized and possessed of a 45 acre tract joining James Sawyer, Joseph Alexander deceased & Davis Basnight out of which his widow, Polly Sawyer has already had her dower layed off. He left as his heirs at law Elvin & Josiah Sawyer, Simeon Rhodes in right of his wife Susan, Asa Ward in right of his wife Sally Ann, Daniel W. Roughton in right of his wife Polly, George Swain in right of his wife Joanah and Samuel, Charles, Zachariah, Eliza & Sally, infants without guardian of intestate's son Zachariah, and Ephraim, Clarkey & Jerome, infants without guardian and children of Malachi Sawyer son of testator, to whom his land has descended. Petition prays that subpoena issue to said heirs, a guardian ad litem be appointed to said heirs and a decree for sale be issued.

The 1850 Census of Washington County shows the household of Elvin Sawyer (46), Betsy Sawyer (42), Nancy Sawyer (23), James Sawyer (22), Jesse Sawyer (20), Caroline M. Sawyer (17), Franklin Sawyer (16), Elvin Sawyer (14), Jno. H. Sawyer (10) and Isaac Sawyer (7).
The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Simeon Rhodes (64), Susanna Rhodes (40), Benjamin Rhodes (29), Elizabeth Rhodes (25), Mathew Rhodes (23), Edmund Hopkins (18), Mariah Rhodes (1) and Zilpha Snell (31). This appears to be the same Simeon Roads who married Jamima Brickhouse on 25 Apr 1809.
