Swain, Uriah, 1848
Bond dated 24 Apr 1848 in the amount of $1,500 appointing Jonathan Tweedy administrator of the estate of Uriah Swain deceased, John Roughton & Charles Johnson securities.
Petition April Term 1848 of Frances Swain who shows that her husband, Uriah Swain, died about the first of April 1848 leaving his widow your petitioner unprovided for. Said Uriah Swain left a personal estate of some value out of which petitioner is entitled to a year's maintenance. Petitioner prays a court order for the laying off of the year's allowance for her and her family.
Laying off of the year's allowance to Fanny Swain, widow of Uriah Swain, on 14 May 1848 by John A. Brickhouse, A. H. Smith, Benj. Spruill & Elijah Basnight.
Petition October Term 1848 of Jonathan Tweedy, administrator of the estate of Uriah Swain deceased, who shows that his intestate died very much in debt and that he has exhausted the assets of the estate and still has debts of about $300 still outstanding. His intestate died leaving a negro girl named Ann about 3 years of age and he desires a court order to sell said negro.
Bond dated 28 Jan 1850 in the amount of $1,000 appointing John McClees administrator de bonis non of the estate of Uriah Swain deceased, Jos. McClees & Charles McClees securities.

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Uriah Swain to Fanny Tweedy on 3 Jan 1833.
The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Frances Swain (39), Mary E. Swain (15), David T. Swain (7) and Ferrebbee F. Swain (8). There is another household with Job S. Swain (38), Frances Swain (35), Nathan Swain (14), William Swain (6), Amelia Brickhouse (20) and Sarah Swain (7 mo). There is a marriage bond for Job A. Swain to Fanny Etheridge on 4 Mar 1844, Benjamin Brickhouse security, so the second census record may be showing a second marriage.
