Spruill, Simeon C., 1837

Bond dated 7 Mar 1837 in the amount of $1,000 appointing Harrison H. Spruill special administrator of the estate of Simeon C. Spruill deceased, D. N. Bateman, Thomas Lewis & Richard D. Hassell securities.

Bond dated 26 Apr 1837 in the amount of $2,500 appointing John Dunbar administrator of the estate of Simeon C. Spruill deceased, Silas Davenport & Jos. Halsey securities.

Petition April Term 1837 by John Dunbar who has administered upon the estate of Simeon C. Spruill as the greatest creditor. He represents that there is not sufficient money or personal property to pay off the debts of the estate. There is a negro girl named Amanda 12 years of age who is the property of the intestate and it is necessary to sell her to meet the debts of the estate. He prays such an order.

Petition April Term of 1837 by John Dunbar who has administered upon the estate of as the greatest creditor. Petitioner is a creditor of the estate by two notes totaling $350 and there is not sufficient personal property to pay him. He shows that said Spruill died seized and possessed of 60 acres joining Wm. Spruill, Thomas Lewis & Jos. Spruill which descended to Sophia daughter of said Simeon. He prays that process may be had against said land to satisfy said notes.

Petition April Term 1837 by Harriet Spruill, widow of Simeon C. Spruill, for dower in the 60 acres of which said Simeon was seized and possessed at death joining Will Spruill, Thomas Lewis & Jos. Spruill. John Dunbar is administrator of her husband and Sophy Spruill his heir at law who is an infant.

Laying off of the years allowance of Harriet Spruill, widow of Simeon C. Spruill on 20 May 1837 by Saml. Rogers, D. S. Godfrey & Soloman Hassell.

Laying off of the dower of Harriet C. Spruill in the lands of her deceased husband, Simeon C. Spruill, on 7 July 1837 by John McClees sheriff and Dempsey S. Godfrey, Thomas Lewis, James A. Spruill, Richard D. Hassell, Daniel N. Bateman, Nathan Alexander, Soloman Hassell, Robert Bartee, Silas Wynne, John Spruill, Matthias Owens & Uriah Spruill. She was alloted 18 1/2 acres out of the 55-acre tract of Simeon C. Spruill including the buildings.

Alexander, guardian ad litem to Sophiah Spruill, to appear in court on the 4th Monday in April next to show cause, if any, why a judgement recently obtained by Matthias Owens against the estate of Simeon C. Spruill should not be levied against the lands & tenements of said Spruill.

Alexander, guardian ad litem to Sophia Spruill, to appear in court on the 4th Monday in April next to show cause, if any, why a judgement recently obtained by Holloway Armstrong against the estate of Simeon C. Spruill should not be levied against the lands & tenements of said Spruill.

Alexander, guardian ad litem to Sophia Spruill, to appear in court on the 4th Monday in January next to show cause, if any, why a judgement recently obtained by Henry E. Lewis against the estate of Simeon C. Spruill should not be levied against the lands & tenements of said Spruill.

Summons dated the 4th Monday in October 1837 for Jos. Alexander, guardian ad litem to Sophia Spruill, to appear in court on the 4th Monday in January next to show cause, if any, why a judgement recently obtained by F. F. Fagan against the estate of Simeon C. Spruill should not be levied against the lands & tenements of said Spruill.

There are many other documents in this file dealing with recovery of the many debts of Capt. Simeon C. Spruill that are of no further genealogical significance.
