Smith, Zebulon, 1847


Bond dated 25 Oct 1847 in the amount of $1,000 appointing Jesse Sawyer administrator of the estate of Zebedee Smith deceased, F. E. Alfred & J. L. Jones securities.

Petition October Term 1848 of Jesse Sawyer, administrator of Zebulon Smith deceased, who states that he has sold all the personal propety of the deceased and applied the proceeds against claims upon the estate. Their are still claims against the estate but nothing to pay them with. The intestate died seized and possessed of 73 acres joining Jesse Sikes upon which the intestate last lived. The intestate left surviving him Penelope Smith his widow and Sarah, Phoebe & Elizabeth Smith his children who have an interest and are heirs at law of said lands. Petitioner prays a copy of this petition and subpoena issue to said heirs to appear in court to answer this petition and that a decree issue for the sale of said land.

Account of the sales of the land of Zebulon Smith agreeable to court order by the administrator on 21 Apr 1849 and at six months credit. One tract where he last lived and died located in the Jones & Pool patent. F. E. Alfred paid $40 and Jesse Sikes paid $15.

Account and settlement of the estate of Zebulon Smith by his administrator, Jesse Sawyer, on 20 Feb 1850. Auditors were Luther Babbitt J. P., Jesse Sikes, Fredk. Patrick & Thos. Swain.

The 1830 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Zebedee Smithwith 1 male 15 - 20, 1 male 60 - 70, 2 females 15 - 20 and 1 female 50 - 60.

The 1840 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Zeb Smith with 1 male 30 - 40, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5 - 10, 1 female 20 - 30 and 1 female 30 - 40.

The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of Peniny Spencer (45), Sarah Smith (15), Phebe A. Smith (9) and Elizabeth Smith (4).
