Patrick, Selby, 1849
Bond dated 23 Jul 1849 in the amount of $5,000 appointng John Spruill administrator of the estate of Selby Patrick deceased, Benja. Spruill & John Sanderson securities.
Petition July Term 1849 of Jehodia, widow of Selby Patrick deceased, who shows that her late husband died seized and possessed of a large personal estate, out of which she is entitled to a year's allowance. John Spruill was appointed administrator of the estate of Selby Patrick at this term of court. She prays a copy of this petition be served upon the said John and a court order be issued.
Laying off of the year's allowance of the widow of Selby Patrick for herself and family from 18 Jun 1849 by John McClees J. P. and Benjamin Spruill, John Sanderson & Jesse Sanderson on 11 Aug 1849. There was a shortage totalling $129.75.
Petition January Term 1850 of John Spruill, administrator of Selby Patrick deceased, who finds that the personal estate will be insufficient to pay the debts of the said intestate by about $1,000, the assets in hand being about $2,100 and the debts $3,100. The intestate died seized and possessed of a tract of land containing about three acres in which the widow is entitled to dower, in her thirds for her life, leaving Frances Spruill, Margaret Morris, Susan Roughton & Louis Morris his heirs at law. A sale of said land will be necessary to pay off the debts of the intestate. Petitioner prays process upon the heirs and an order to sell said land subject to the widow's dower.
Petition July Term 1851 of Wm. Morris and wife Margaret, Zachariah Roughton and wife Susan and Lois Morris widow of Selby Patrick against John Spruill, administrator of Selby Patrick, who show that they, together with the said John in right of his wife Frances are the only heirs at law and distributees of Selby Patrick deceased. The said John has administered upon the estate of about $6,000 for over two years and has a considerable amount on hand that is not needed for the payment of debts. Petitioners are anxious that an account of said administration be made and their shares paid over to them in the proportions set forth to wit (one fourth to each petitioner). Petitioners pray that subpoenas be issued and an accounting of the estate be ordered.
Audited account of John Spruill, administrator of Selby Patrick, reported at October Term 1851. The Clerk received $3,093.31 and disbursed $2,968.90, leaving a balance of $124.41 on hand with the administrator. The account is extensive, with many names and dates of sales.
