Norman, William, 1850
Bond dated 28 [blank] 1850 in the amount of $500 appointing J. F. Davenport administrator of the estate of William Norman deceased, Jas. R. Dillin & J. L. Jones securities.
Petition January Term 1850 of Clarissa Norman, widow and relict of William Norman, showing that William Norman departed this life intestate on or about 20 Jan 1850 leaving your petitioner unprovided for. The said William Norman left this life possessed of a considerable personal estate, out of which she is entitled to a year's allowance according to law. She prays a decree.
Petition January Term 1850 of Clarissa Norman who shows that early in the month of January Wm. Norman died intestate seized and possessed of a tract of land joining Henry Norman, Jeremiah Swain and others which descended to Joseph D. Huffman and wife Joanna, James Cooper and wife Sydney and Richd. Alexander & wife Eliza, his heirs at law. Petitioner is the widow of William Norman and as such is entitled to 1/3rd part of said land during her natural life as dower. Petitioner prays service upon the heirs and a writ of dower.
Laying off of the dower of Clarsey Norman in the lands of her deceased husband, William Norman on 27 July 1850 by William G. Armstrong Deputy Sheriff and Tully Davenport, Wm. W. Walker, Eli Spruill, Allen West, Abram Leachfield, Abram Hassell, Jacob Dwain, Jesse Hassell, Thos. L. Hassell, John Leachfield, Timothy Swain & Jas. F. Davenport.
Petition October Term 1850 of James F. Davenport, administrator of William Norman, who shows that the debts of the estate, the year's allowance of the widow and the costs od administration exceed the personal assets of the estate by $300 ti $350. Petitioner further shows that the said William died seized and possessed of a tract of land joining J. W. Hassell, Jerh. Swain's heirs and Henry Norman on which said Henry now resides. Said William died without leaving living issue but leaving his father, said Henry, a sister Joanna intermarried with Jos. D. Hufton, another sister Eliza intermarried with Richard Alexander and another sister Sidney intermarried with James Cooper and to whom the aforesaid land, being 250 to 350 acres, has descended as heirs, said Henry being entitled thereto for life, and said Hufton & wife, said Alexander & wife and said Cooper and wife in remainder and fee. Petitioner prays process and an order decreeing sale in order to pay the debts of the estate.
