Norman, Joab, 1850
Bond dated 22 April 1850 in the amount of $5,000 appointing James F. Davenport administrator of the estate of Job Norman deceased, Richd. Davenport & S. S. Simmons securities.
Petition April Term 1850 of Amanda Norman, widow of the late Joab Norman who died about the month of March last leaving petitioner unprovided for. The said Joab Norman deceased left considerable personal property out of which petitioner is entitled to a year's provisions. She prays a court order for the laying off of her year's provision.
Laying off of the year's provision of Amanda Norman, widow of Joab Norman deceased on 14 May 1850 by Silas Davenport J. P. and S. H. McCrae, Burton H. Spruill & H. E. Lewis. A deficiency of $385 was found, which is to be paid the widow by the administrator of the estate of Joab Norman deceased.
Petition October Term 1853 of Amanda Norman, widow of Joab Norman and of John W., Henry C., Margaretr F., Amanda & Mary Virginia Norman, children of Joab Norman, by their guardian James F. Davenport shows that they are tenants in common of the following four negros, Lucinda, Julia, Penny & Lavinia in the following proportions, to wit, the said Amanda in the proprtion of 1/6th and the said John W., Henry C., Margaretr F., Amanda & Mary Virginia in the proportion of the other 5/6th. Because there are more distributees than negros division can't be done, so petitioners pray an order for sale.
Bond dated 25 Oct 1853 in the amount of $6,000 appointing James F. Davenport guardian to John W., Henry C., Margaret F., Amanda & Mary Virginia Norman children and orphans of Joab Norman, S. H. McCrae, J. R. Norman, S. S. Simmons & William G. Armstrong securities.
Petition January Term 1857 of Eli Spruill and of John W., Henry C., Margaret F. Amanda & Mary Virginia Norman, infants of tender years, by James F. Davenport who show that Joab Norman died intestate leaving your infant petitioners and Amanda Norman his widow his distributees and heirs at law. Petitioners are tenants in common of the following negros descended from the said Joab. (The said Eli having purchased the share of the said Amanda the widow.) To wit, Julia and three children, Lavinia, John & Harriet, Lucinda and her two children, Penelope & Charles Henry, seven in all. The said Eli is entitled to 1/6th and the other five minors to 5/6th. Said negros are women and children and the minors have only a small tract of land which rents for a small amount, not enough to pay the expenses of keeping said negros. Petitioners show that a division of said slaves can't be equally made and that the purchase money arising from a sale would pay a better interest than the slaves in their present condition. Petitioners pray an order for sale.

Bond dated 27 Jul 1857 in the amount of $3,000 appointing James Norman of Washington County guardian to John Norman, Henry Norman, Margaret Norman, Matilda Norman & Virginia Norman orphans, Jesse Norman & Franklin Spruill of Washington County securities.
Audit of the guardin account of James F. Davenport, guardian of the heirs of Joab Norman, on 24 Sep 1857 by Samuel McCleese. A balance of $1,816.60 is found to be due the heirs.
