Meekins, Nancy, 1849


Bond dated 29 Jul 1849 in the amount of $1,000 appointing Jordan L. Jones administrator of the estate of Nancy Meekins deceased, Thomas Swain & Joshua J. White securities.

Petition at October Term 1840 of Jordan L. Jones administrator of Nancy Meekins. As administrator he is in possession of a negro slave named Mingo about 48 years of age. The other personal property has been sold and is of small amount, making it impossible to make distribution to the 7 distributees without sale of said negro. He prays an order to do so.

Undated account of the estate of Nancy Meekins by the administrator Jordan L. Jones. Cites sales of negro man Mingo on 18 Dec 1849 for $165.56.

Report dated 8 Dec 1849 from Jordan L. Jones, administrator of Nancy Meekins deceased, of the sale of the negro slave Mingo belonging to the heirs of said Meekins by virtue of court order at public vendue to Bartlet Jones Junr. for $500.50.

Bond dated 24 Oct 1854 in the amount of $500 appointing Bartlet Jones Junr. administrator de bonis non of the estate of Nancy Meekins deceased, Fredk. Patrick & Jno. A. Cooper securities.

Bond dated 24 Apr 1855 in the amount of $800 appointing Chas. McClees administrator de bonis non of the estate of Nancy Meekins deceased, Benjamin Spruill & Thomas Swain securities.


The will of Aden Meekins, written in 1838 and proved in 1842, gives his wife Nancy the use of negro man Mingo during her lifetime.
