Meekins, Isaac, 1848


Bond dated 24 Oct 1848 in the amount of $1,000 appointing Jordan L. Jones administrator of the estate of Isaac Meekins deceased, Frederick Patrick & Franklin Liverman securities.

Laying off of the year's provisions of Oliff Meekins, widow of Isaac Meekins deceased, on 3 Nov 1848 by Jesse Sikes, David Cahoon & Saml. McClees.

Petition January Term 1849 of Olif Meekins, wodow and relict of Isaac Meekins who shows that Isaac Meekins departed this life intestate about 10 August leaving your petitioner, his widow, unprovided for. The said Isaac Meekins left a personal estate of some value out of which she is entitled to a year's maintenance for herself and family. She prays the necessary orders.

Petition January Term 1849 of Jordan L. Jones, administrator of Isaac Meekins, who shows that the assets of the personal estate are about about $180 short of meeting the liabilities of the estate and the costs of administration. Petitioner further shows the deceased died seized and possessed of the following real estate: the land whereon he last lived containg about 40 acres estimated to be worth some $50 after deducting the widow's claim for dower; and also 50 acres of cypress swamp on the Northwest Fork estimated to be worth $25. He left as his heirs at law Franklin, Charles, Martha, Richard & Hezekiah Meekins, infants, to whom the lands have descended. Petitioner prays process and an order to sell said property.

Petition July Term 1850 of Jordan L. Jones administrator of Isaac Meekins deceased, who shows the personal assetts of his intestate to be about $140 and the debt to be about $267.84 or thereabouts. Petitioner shows that his intestate died seized and possessed of a tract of land of 50 acres or thereabouts joining Hardy Liverman, David Cohoon & Jesse Sikes of the value of $100 or thereabouts and a tract of swamp containing about 50 acres joining the Northwest Fork. In order to pay the debts of the estate and the costs of administration it is necessary to sell said lands which have descended to the orphans of said Meekins who are without guardian, to wit, Franklin, Patsy, Richard, Charles, Jasper & Martha, the same being heirs at law of said Meekins. Petitioner prays process and a court order to sell said lands.

The undersigned commissioner of sale in the above entitled action begs leave to report that after paying the costs in this action amounting to $33.90 there is in hand $166.10 due to the distributees; that Wiley P. Jones husband of Ollie Meekins, who is 60 years of age, is entitled to a life estate in 1/5 of the $166.10, amounting to $14.40; this amount deducted from $166.10 leaves in hand $151.70 to be distributed among the remaining heirs as follows: to the heirs of Patsy Meekins who married Selick Jones - $37.92; to the heirs of Wm. Franklin Meekins - $37.92; to J. C. Meekins Sr. the sum of $37.92; to the heirs or personal representatives of Jasper W. Meekins the sum of $37.92.
It appearing from the list of heirs of the parties herein referred to, hereto attached, that Bart Jones and husband Geo. Everton, Clyde Jones, A. F. Jones, Victoria Parisher and husband Thos. Parisher, the descendants of Selick Jones, Henry Cahoon and wife Ann Cahoon, Annie Cahoon and husband M. H. Basnight and Samuel P. Sawyer descendants of Wm. Franklin Meekins, J. C. Meekins Sr., representing a whole interest in the Isaac Meekins lands have transferred their interests in the said land before this sale to the Richmond Cedar Works making the interest of the said Richmond Cedar Works 53/96 part of the whole, subject to the life estate of Noah Sawyer in 1/16 of the same.
It also appears that Jasper W. Meekins conveyed his interest in the said lands to F. L. W. Cahoon who assigned the same to D. O. Newberry the plaintiff in this action.
In view of the above facts the distribution is as follows:

There are receipts for the above settlement that show Walter Sawyer, son of Noah Sawyer, whose interest was 1/48 of the whole tract, subject to the life estate of Noah Sawyer. Also Jesse Sawyer whose interest was 1/48 of the whole tract, subject to the life estate of Noah Sawyer. Also Noah Sawyer who has life estate in 1/16 of the whole tract as husband of Kate Meekins deceased. Also Mary Sawyer who has 1/64 undivided interest subject to the life estate of her husband Walter Sawyer. Also Wiley P. Jones who has a life estate in 1/5 of the whole tract as husband of Ollie Meekins deceased.
