Answer on the first Monday in September 1835 in the Court of Equity by Dempsey Liverman, administrator to the estate of Dempsey Liverman Junr. deceased, defendant to the bill of complaint of Phoebe Liverman, George Mason & Nathan Richardson and his wife Ann E. Richardson. Defendant admits to the death of Dempsey Liverman Junr. and that administration upon his estate was granted to this defendant as set forth by the complainants and that he took possession of all the personal estate of the said Dempsey which consisted of eight negro slaves to wit Pompey, Aggie & their children Eliza, Everitt, Chloe, Nicey, James & Thomas and this respondent had in his hands belonging to his intestate the sum of eighty dollars on the first of January last and has now in his hand a further sum of notes of hand due next January amounting to one hundred and five dollars and this defendant admits that there are no debts due from the estate of his intestate remaining unpaid. Respondent further admits that complainants George, Ann & Phoebe and this respondent are nearest of kin to said deceased and related to said intestate in the manner set forth in complainants bill; but this defendant avers that there are many cousins of the deceased, the children of his deceased uncles and aunts, which uncles and aunts died before said intestate and that it hath been alleged by some cousins that they were all entitled to distributive shares of said property and this respondent being ignorant of the law upon the subject of distribution has been desirous of accounting under the decree of this court and that legal distribution should be made and is ready and willing to submit to a division of said negroes and to a distribution of the funds in his hands according to the decree of this court.
