Johnson, Charles, 1855
Bond dated 15 Feb 1855 in the amount of $600 appointing William H. Johnson special administrator of the estate of Charles Johnson deceased, Joseph McCleese & Saml. McCleese securities.
Petition October Term 1855 of Nancy Johnson, widow of Charles Johnson who shows that her husband died intestate since the last term of this court. Petitioner further shows that she desires to have her year's allowance set off to her out of the estate according to law.
Laying off of the year's allowance of Nancy Johnson, widow of Charles Johnson, on an unspecified date by John McClees J. P. and Jos. McClees, Wm. McClees & A. H. Smith. There was a deficiency of $98 to be paid to the widow by the administrator.
Court order concerning the petition of Will H. Johnson & Wm. McClees guardian at October Term 1857 and issued 9 Nov 1857. Court finds that petitioners are tenants in common of slave Martha named in the petition and that said slave can't be divided among the parties interested owing to her being an invalid. Wm. McClees & Wm. H. Johnson appointed commissioners to dispose of said negro according to the prayer of said petition.
Report of William McClees & Will H. Johnson, commissioners appointed to see negro Martha, who say that after due advertisement they offered said slave at public bidding and being an invalid of no value she became a charge and was knocked off to Zach. Roughton, he to receive the sum of $175 for taking and keeping her.
Court order at January Term 1858 after reviewing the report of the commissioners appointed to sell slave Martha. Report is confirmed and the parties of interest are ordered to bear the sale according to their interest, which was 1/4th for Wm. H. Johnson and 3/4ths for Wm. McClees, guardian to the children named in the petition.
Petition January Term 1858 of Will H. Johnson, Mary Johnson, Clarkey Johnson, Sylva Johnson, John A. Johnson & Benjamin Johnson by his next friend and guardian ad litem, Will H. Johnson, who show that they are tenants in common of the following slaves to wit Lavinia and child Jim. boy Horace and girl Harriet now held by Wm. H. Johnson as administrator of Charles Johnson deceased. They show that the estate of said Charles Johnson has been settled and the debts and charges paid off and they are deairous to hold their interests in severalty. Since said negros can't actually be divided among the parties they pray a suitable person be appointed to make sale of said negros on a credit of six months.
