Hoskins, John, 1855
Bond dated 23 Apr 1855 in the amount of $10,000 appointing John A. Pledger administrator of the estate of John Hoskins deceased, A. H. Smith, Joseph Hoskins & Thomas Meekins securities.
Laying off of the year's allowance of Mary Hoskins widow of John Hoskins deceased on 10 May 1855 by Jesse Sanderson J. P. and Saml. McCleese & John E. Brickhouse. The amount assessed to buy things not on hand is $292.
Petition October Term 1855 of John A. Pledger, administrator of John Hoskins, who shows that the estate of said John Hoskins is so much indebted that the said debts cannot be discharged by the assets on hand and that a sale of two of the negros left by him will be necessary for the purpose of paying the said debts. He prays an order to sell negros Phebe & Stephen.
Bond dated 26 Jan 1857 in the amount of $2,500 appointing William McClees guardian to Nancy Hoskins, John Hoskins & Angelin Hoskins orphans or minors, James Forbes & Nelson McClees securities.
Petition October Term 1857 of William McClees guardian to Nancy, John & Angeline Hoskins, infant children of John Hoskins and of William H. Johnson in right of his wife Mary who show that they are tenants in common of negros Derry, Matilda, Martha, Stephen, Lydia & Rollins. Said Johnson desires to have his share of said negros set off to him in severalty to which said McClees guardian consents. Negro Martha above named has been an invalid from her birth and is a charge. They pray an order for sale of said Martha or that she be let out to him who will take her at the smallest charge

Petition October Term 1860 of McCallister Roughton and wife Nancy who show that they with John Hoskins & Angeline Hoskins are tenants in common of four negros, Stephen, Rollins, Lydia & Derry. Petitioners are unwilling to longer hold their interest in common and pray an order for division of said slaves so their share may be set apart in severalty. They show that the said John Hoskins & Angeline Hoskins are infants under the age of 21 and that William McClees is their guardian.

Newberry security.
The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of John Hoskins (39), Mary Hoskins (25), Nancy Hoskins (5), John Thomas (10), Martha Bryan (46) mulatto, Sopia Palen (20) black, Robert Palen (2) black and Mary A. Palen (6 m0) black.
The 1860 Census of Tyrrell County shows the household of William Johnson (33), Mary Johnson (25), John Johnson (10), Angelina Johnson (8) and John Johnson (3). The surnames of John (10) and Angelina (8) should be Hoskins.
