Tyrrell County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions
July Session 1783
Ordered that William Cowel have administration on the estate of Benjamin Cowel deceased on his giving security in the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds specie, which security is accordingly given by Pettit Cook and Thomas Owens.
Ordered that William Cowel administrator of Benjamin Cowel have leave to sell the personal estate of the said deceased to pay debts and further {unreadable} at publick vendue according to law & make return of account of sales to next court.
October Session 1783
Thomas Hoskins John Warrington & John Gibson Esqr. being appointed to audit the accounts of William Cowell administrator of Benja. Cowell deceased against the said deceased estate & find a balance due from W. Cowell to the said deceased estate of 106 pounds, 5 shillings & 7 pence specie.
Appeared William Howett in open court and exhibited an account of sales of the estate of Benjamin Cowell deceased amounting to 151 pounds & 3 shillings & ordered to be filed also an acount of sales of Robert Combs deceased estate amounting to {blank}.
July Session 1785
Produced in court by William Cowell administrator of Benjamin Cowell deceased his account against said deceased estate being examined allowed to the amount of 49 pounds, 18 shillings & 5 pence.
April Session 1786
William Cowell administrator of Benjamin Cowell deceased returns into court an account against the estate of said deceased to the amount of 27 pounds, 15 shillings & 6 pence allowed & ordered to be filed.
April Session 1788
William Cowell administrator of Benjamin Cowell deceased exhibited his account in court against the said deceased estate and there appears to be about 52 pounds, 8 shillings & 8 pence due said estate ordered filed settled per auditors appointed this term.
January Session 1789
Ordered that Zachariah Hunnings, Thomas Owens with the surveyor of the county divide the lands of Benjamin Cowell Senr. given to his two daughters Dorcas and Rebecca agreeable to the last will and testament of the said Benjamin Cowell Senr. deceased.
April Session 1789
Hezekiah Spruill Esqr. one of the dividers exhibits into court a division of the land of Benjamin Cowell Senr. deceased between his son John Cowell and his two daughters Rebecca & Dorcas Cowell according to the said deceased last will and testament ordered filed.
July Sesion 1793
Col. John Warrington one of the auditors appointed to audite the accounts of William Cowell administrator of Benjamin Cowell deceased exhibits the same into court & there appears a balance due the orphans of said deceased to the amount of 32 pounds, 1 shilling & 11 pence & filed.

Receipt dated 25 Jul 1783 wherein John Mann acknowledges 56 pounds, 15 shillings & 4 pence paid to him by William Cowell for repairing a schooner one half the property of Benjamin deceased. Witnessed by John Warrington.
Receipt dated 26 Jul 1783 wherein Wm. Howett acknowledges 3 pounds & 15 shillings paid to him by William Cowell as commission for selling the estate of Benjamin Cowell deceased.
William Cowell's account as executor of B. Cowell deceased at October term 1783:
Includes monies paid to Christopher Neil & John Mann for taking care of the schooner and its rigging.
Also, charges for William Cowell attending court.
Execution dated 26 Apr 1793 and issued 25 May 1793 to the Coroner against the goods & chattels of Thomas Stewart deceased in the hands of his executor, John Stewart, and of the goods & chattels, lands & tenements of Edmund Blount Junr. & William Mackey, the deceased's security, for 78 pounds, 2 shillings and 3 pence 3 farthings which William Cowell administrator of Benjamin Cowell deceased recovered from them for debt, damages, costs and charges.
