Cooper, Joseph Senior, 1855
Bond dated 23 Apr 1855 in the amount of $200 appointing James Brickhouse administrator of the estate of Joseph Cooper Senr. deceased, Alexander H. Smith & Saml. McCleese securities.
Petition July Term 1855 of James Brickhouse, administrator of the estate of Joseph Cooper Senior who died intestate. The said Joseph Cooper senior left no personal property and there are no rights and credits belonging to the estate while the debts of the estate amount to about $74 and the cost of administration will be about $15. The said Joseph Cooper Senior died seized and possessed of about 100 acres joining John Rhodes, the Howett lands held by Jno. Sanderson and wife, in his wife's right lying on and near Albemarle Sound. Joseph Cooper Senior left the following children his sole heirs at law to whom said land has descended, to wit, a daughter Mahala, now intermarried with Uri Spruill, Penny a daughter now intermarried with Richard Hollowell or Holloway, John Cooper, Allen Cooper, Priscilla a daughter now intermarried with Mathew L. Brickhouse, and Joseph Cooper, since deceased, whose interest in said lands is now descended to the other heirs herein named, said Joseph having died without issue. Petitioner prays process and a decree to sell said land in order to pay the debts of the estate.
