Bond dated 24 April 1848 in the amount of $2,000 appointing Jesse Sanderson guardian to Mary, Jeremiah & Mahala Cox orphans of James Cox deceased, Benja. Spruill & Jos. Alexander securities.
Promissory note dated 15 Nov 1854 in which John E. Brickhouse & Jesse Sanderson agree to pay $453.28 to Jesse Sanderson, guardian to Jeremiah & Mahala Cox on order for value received.

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of James Cox to Mahala Weskett on 10 Aug 1831, Amos Thoroughgood security.
See the 1845 estate papers of Jeremiah Weskett. James Cox was his son in law and married to his daughter, Mahala.
The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows Jeremiah Cox (14) in the household of John Spruill (36) and Frances Spruill (31). John Spruill was a half brother of Jeremiah Weskett.
The 1850 Census of Washington County shows Mary Cox (17) in the household of J. T. Lindsay (46) and Matilda Lindsay (41).
The 1850 Census of Tyrrell County shows Mahala Cox (12) in the household of John Sanderson (37) and Angelice Sanderson (30). Amelia Spruill (74), Mahala's grandmother is also living in this household.
