Chambers, Benjamin, 1846
Bond dated 26 Jan 1846 in the amount of $700 appointing Jesse Sikes administrator of the estate of Benjamin Chambers deceased, J. L. Jones & Thos. J. Cooper securities.
Laying off of the year's provisions of Melany Chambers, widow of Benjamin Chambers deceased, on 7 Feb 1846 by John Sikes, Abel Sawyer & John Sawyer.
Petition April Term 1847 of Milana Chambers, widow of Benj. Chambers deceased, who shows that her late husband died seized and possessed of 30 acres joining Cooper and others out of which she is advised she is entitled to dower. She prays a decree of dower.
Laying off of the dower of Melaney Chambers, widow of Benjamin Chambers deceased, in the lands of her deceased husband on 9 Jul 1847 ny Russsell Armstrong, F. P. Weatherly, John McDaniel, Simon Sawyer, George A. Sawyer, David Cooper, Henry Selby, Jesse Sikes, John Jones, John White & John Sikes. The widow was put in possession of 1/3 of the land which joins the Settle Ground Swamp and David Cooper including the dwelling and out houses thereon.
A large number of judgements were rendered against Jesse Sikes, administrator of Benjamin Chambers deceased, in 1848 and 1849. There were no goods and chattels left to satisfy these claims, so the claimants went after the lands of estate. This caused the heirs to have to appear in court to show cause, if any, why the lands should not be levied. Heirs were Malanie/Malaney/Malania/Malana, Jesse, William W., Britain & Sally Chambers.
