Basnight, Joseph, 1855
Account of the sale on 15 Sep 1855 of the property of Joseph Basnight by Wm. C. Snell administrator. Purchasers and number of purchases are Widow (46), A. Alexander (8), Isaac Butt (3), Wm. Davis (3), Asa Etheridge (1), Edmund Hopkins (1), Wm. Jarvis (2), S. McClees (7), John Sanders (1), Burks Snell (1) & Jas. Travis (2). Total sale was $132.15.
Petition October Term 1855 of Aleef Basnight, widow of Joseph Basnight, who shows that her husband died intestate since the last term of this court leaving him surviving the following children to wit Benjamin & James Basnight who are infants without guardian and his only heirs at law. Petitioner further shows that her husband died seized and possessed of 30 acres joining Wm. Jarvis, John Sanders and others. She prays an order for her dower in said land be layed off to her.
Petition October Term 1855 of Alief Basnight, widow of Joseph Basnight, who shows that her said husband died intestate since the last term of this court. Petitioner desires to have her year's support out of the estate layed off to her according to law and prays a court order to that effect.
Petition January Term 1856 of Wm. C. Snell, administrator of Joseph Basnight, who shows that to the best of his knowledge the debts of the estate exceed the assets by about $90. He further shows that the intestate died seized and possessed in fee simple of about 30 acres joining Wm. Jarvis, John Sanderson & Willis Cooper. Said land descended to his children James & Benja. S. Basnight upon his death who are infants without guardian and said land is subject to the widow's dower. Petitioner prays an order for sale of said land.
Laying off of the dower of Alief Basnight in the lands of Joseph Basnight on 21 Mar 1856 by Tully davenport sheriff and Samuel Norman, H. H. Brickhouse, Thos. Gibson, R. B. Knight, Simeon Rhodes, B. B. Brickhouse, Little T. Spruill, Wm. Jarvis, James Travis, A. B. Snell, John Saners & Benj. Brickhouse. She received 10 acres joining Howett, John Sanders and the main road.
