Basnight, Jonathan, 1851
Bond dated 28 Apr 1851 in the amount of $4,000 appointing Charles McClees administrator of the estate of Jonathan Basnight deceased, S. S. Simmons, Jesse Sanderson & Jas. F. Davenport securities.
Petition July Term 1851 of Charles McClees, administrator of Jonathan Basnight, who shows that the said Jonathan died intestate recently. His intestate was so indebted at his death as to make it necessary to sell all his personal property including his slaves who are five in number and named Betty, Martha, Mary, Solomon and an infant child of Betty. He therefore prays an order for sale of said slaves.
Account of the sale of the personal property of Jonathan Basnight by Charles McClees administrator on 3 May 1851 including items sold and the buyers, one of which is the widow. Also a list of the notes due the estate.

Petition April Term 1852 of Dedemma Basnight, widow of Jonathan Basnight deceased, who shows that her late husband died seized and possessed of a tract of 100 acres joining James McClees & Wilson Liverman. She is advised that she is entitled to dower in 1/3 of said land which has descended to an only child of said Jonathan, one Zilpha Basnight.
Laying off of the dower of Diadema Basnight in the land of Jonathan Basnight on 22 Jul 1852 by Tully Davenport sheriff and Luther Babbit, Fred Patrick, Ashby Jones, Migett Spencer, Isaac Spencer, Ludford Cahoon, Fred Davenport, David Cahoon, Able Cahoon, Allen Cahoon, Saml. A. Truitt & Benja. A. Spruill. She received 33 acres joining Saml. A. Truitt & David Cahoon.
Petition July Term 1852 of Charles McClees, administrator of Jonathan Basnight, who shows that his intestate died about April 1851 and soon thereafter he duly administered upon his estate. His intestates indebtedness at the time of his death was about $2,500, his personal assets amount to about $2,000 and the costs of administration will be about $300. Claims against the estate can't be satisfied from personal assets, making a sale of realty necessary. Said intestate died seized and possessed of a tract of about 60 or 70 acres joining David Cohoon & Wilson Cohoon's heirs, which has descended the intestate's only child and heir at law, Zilpha Basnight, He prays process and a decree for sale.
Report dated 6 Sep 1853 by Charles McClees, administrator of Jonathan Basnight, of the sale of the land belonging to the estate of Jonathan Basnight located in Gum Neck and described in his petition made at July Term 1852. Tract was purchased by James F. Davenport on the 4th Monday in July 1853 for $410.
There are many legal documents in this file dealing with recovery of the debts owed by the estate.
