In the name of God amen I John J.
Alexander of the County of Tyrrel in the State of N. Carolina being of sound
& desposing mind & memory do make & ordain this my last Will &
Testament in writing as follows-
1st- It is my will and desire that my body be decently entered according to
the descretion of my executor herein after mentioned and of such worldly estate
as it hath pleased God to bless me, I dispose thereof in manner & form
following- that is to say in the first place I lend to Susan Alexander
daughter of my brother Nelson Alexander during the time of her natural
life all of my land & negros & the rest of my property both real and
personal and after her death I give the above named property to her children
lawfully begotten of her boddy if any to them and there heirs forever-
2nd. In the event said Susan Alexander should die leaving no children
my will and desire is that I give all of my estate both real and personal to the
heirs of Mary White now the wife of Joshua White to them &
there heirs forever. Lastly I hereby nominate & appoint my friend
Benjamin Spruill executor to this my last will and testament hereby
revoking all others by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand & seal at Tyrrel County this the 5th December in the year of
Lord 1842. Signed sealed published & declared by the said John J.
Alexander as & for his last Will & Testament in our presence who at
the request of said testator hereunto set our hands as witnesses in his
presences

Saml. G. Salyer State of North Carolina The last will and testament of John J. Alexander Dec’d was exhibited
in open court & proved by the oath of Jeremiah Weskett a subscribing
witness hereto who swore that he saw Saml. G. Salyer sign the same as
concerning testimony & that the sd. J. I. Alexander was of sound
desposing mind & memory at the time of signing said will.

North Carolina Archives Summons dated 4 May 1843 for John McClees administrator of John J. Alexander to appear before a Justice of the Peace
to answer the complaint of Alexander Owens in a plea of debt due by account in the sum of $35.
Hire of the negros belonging to the heirs of John J. Alexander deceased by Benjamin Spruill guardian for the year 1846
with notes coming due 1 Jan 1847: Petition July Term 1848 by Bartlet Jones & Susan Alexander stating that Frederick Alexander deceased was seized and
possessed at his death of a tract of land formerly belonging to Frederick Alexander. The said Frederick Alexander died
intestate leaving Nelson Alexander & John J. Alexander, and Susan Alexander is the heir of John J. Alexander and
Bartlet Jones is by deed & sale entitled to the interest of Nelson Alexander with each being entitled to one moiety.
Court order on the 4th Monday in July 1848 for the division of the lands of John J. Alexander deceased between according to quality and quantity. Commissioners are Fred Davenport, J. W. Parker, C. P. Shepherd,
Jos. Caroon & William Morris.
Division on 18 Aug 1848 to Bartlet Jones Senr. & Susan Alexander as tenants in common of the lands descended to them as heirs
at law of John J. Alexander deceased and Nelson Alexander. Lot 1 of 208 1/2 acres joining Jos. Caroon goes to
Bartlet Jones Senr. Lot 2 of 208 1/2 acres goes to Susan Alexander. Commissioners are Chs. P. Shepherd, Joseph Caroon
& Fred Davenport with Henry McClees as witness.

See the 1823 court minutes and estate papers of Frederick Alexander. He was the father of both John J. & Nelson Alexander.
Tyrrell County Marriage Bonds show the marriage of Joshua White to Mary Alexander on 5 Mar 1835, John D. Liverman security; also,
Nelson Alexander to Assenith Hunnings on 15 Jul 1840, H. G. Spruill security.
Susan Alexander is age 8 in the 1850 census in the household of Acenith Watson (27) and John W. Watson (2). Marriage bonds show the
marriage of James W. Watson to Asenith Alexander on 9 Jul 1846, Silby Patrick security. Nelson Alexander died in 1842.
