In the Name of God Amen. I Gideon Alexander of Tyrrell County being of sound mind & memory Thanks be God do this 17 day of (?) 1839 Make ad publish this My Last will and testament in matter and form following to wit:
First. I give and bequeath my soul unto God who gave it, and my body to be decently intoumbed in a Christian like manner, agreeable to the discretion of my family, and as it ness---its what worldly substance it hath pleased God to (---------) with. I wish divided in the following manner.
Item 1st, I give unto my Wife Mary?? Alexander all the land where on I know live together with the stock of cattle, hogs7 farming utensils To have & retain? Furniture during her natural life or widowhood.
Item 2, I give and bequeath unto my son John (strike thru) all the Land North of the Maple Branch including the Hassle plantation whire I know live, with privilege to get lightwood on the South side of said Maple Branch,
Item 3, I give and bequeath unto my son Sollomon all the Land on the South side of the Maple Branch reserving the right to John (strike thru) of getting Lightwood on the said land,
Item 4. I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas all the land & swamp I Own to the Northwest of the second creek,
Item 5. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary, Fanny, Nancy & Clarkey each one cow & calf, one bed and furniture & one spinning wheel each.
Item 6, I wish the rest of my property not given away in Legacies to be sold and applied to the payment of my lawful debts if any and the wrest if any remains to be equally Devided between all my Lawful heirs. I make and appoint my friend Wm. Mahone my true and lawful executor of this will.

Alexander, Gibeon, 1840
Note dated 22 Feb 1839 at Elizabeth City in which Gibeon Alexander promises to pay Felix Geffrey by the first of June next the sum of $150.71 for and on account of his new schooner now building his self a bill of ships chandlery.
Bond dated 27 Jan 1840 in the amount of two thousand dollars appointing Thomas Alexander administrator with the will attached of the estate of Gibeon Alexander deceased, John H. Combs & John Sanderson securities.
Summons issued the fourth Monday of April 1843 and issued 26 Apr 1843 for Thomas Alexander administrator of Gibeon Alexander deceased to appear in court on the fourth Monday of July next to answer unto John J. Grandy administrator of Felix Geffrey in a plea that he render unto him the sum of $150.71 which he unjustly detains to his damage $70.
Examination of the receipts, accounts, etc. of Gibeon Alexander in the hands of Thomas Alexander, administrator, on 17 Jul 1844 by Jos. Alexander per court order at January Term 1844.

Geffroy, Felix, 1842
John J. Grandy, administrator of F. Geffroy, lately recovered against Thomas Alexander, administrator of Gibeon Alexander deceased, recovered against Thomas Alexander, administrator of Gibeon Alexander, the sum of $150.71 with interest from 22 Feb 1839 with payment of $7.58 on 20 Apr 1841, $20.00 an 30 Sep 1841 and $20.10 on 10 Dec 1841. Defendant has fully administered and there are no goods & chattels remaining in the estate. It being suggested that the said Gibeon Alexander died seized and possessed of lands in Tyrrell County, the Sheriff is commanded to cause Soloman Mann, Nancy Mann, William Caroon, Fanny Caroon, Nancy Alexander, Clarky Alexander, John Alexander & Soloman Alexander to appear in court on the 4th Monday in July next and show cause, if any, why the said judgement and costs should not be levied against the said lands & tenements. Dated the 4th Monday in July 1845 and issued 4 Sep 1845.

Tyrrell County marriage bonds show the marriage of Gibeon Alexander to Polly Mann on 18 May 1816, Thomas Alexander security.
The 1850 census of Tyrrell County shows the family of Mary Alexander (50), Solomon Alexander (20), Clarkey Alexander (14), John D. Alexander (10) and Joseph Mann (2).
