This indenture made this Eleventh day of April in the year of our Lord, one thousand Eight hundred and ten between Edward Walton of Orange County and the state of North Carolina of the one part and Zachariah Davies of Lunenburg County and state of Virginia of the other part witness that the said Edward Walton for and in consideration of the Sum of Twelve hundred pounds to him in hand paid by the said Zachariah Davies his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract of land lying in the County of Orange on the waters of New Hope, beginning at a White Oak on the south side of the south fork of New Hope on James Cheeks line running thence along the south forty six and a half chains to a white oak corner to George Long thence north sixty three and a half chains to a white oak Currys Corner thence west five chains to a white oak thence north forty two and a half chains to an ash on a branch thence north eighty four degrees west fourteen and a half chains to a Spanish oak thence south twenty six degrees west nine chains to a black oak thence north thirteen chains to a black oak thence west thirty one and a half chains to a Spanish oak thence south thirteen chains to a hickory Bakers corner thence west twenty six chains to a white oak Mitchels line thence south twelve and a half chains to an ash on the north fork of New Hoe thence east thirty seven chains to a Spanish oak thence south thirty four degrees east thirty five and a half chains to a black oak thence south twenty five degrees west thirty chains to a rock on the creek thence up the same passing the Mill Dam on the south side at forth three chains thence up the south fork to the beginning five hundred and thirty four acres together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging to have and to hold the said land and premises and every part thereof unto the only proper use and use and behalf of him the said Zachariah Davies his heirs and assigns forevr and the said Edward Walton for himself his heirs doth covenant and agree to and with the said Zachariah Davies and his heirs that he and the said Edward Walton will warrant and forever defend the said land and premises and every part thereof against the claim or claims of all manner of person or persons whatever laying claim to the same. In witness whereof the said Walton hath set his hand and seal the day and year above written.

Will of Jacob Riley 

  In the name of God amen. I Jacob Riley senior being now of sound and disposing memory do constitute and ordain this my last will and testament in manor and formas follows.

  I give and bequeathe to my son Jacob Riley the land whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever and as a consideration I hereby direct and request that he shall pay to his sister my daughter Dianna Riley ten pound a year for ten years making in the whole one hundred pound.

  I further give bequeathe to my daughter Dianna Riley a sadle called hers and a set of drawers now in the house and two beds that are called hers and the furniture belonging to them and two cows and a large walnut table.

  And after paying all my just debts I give and bequeathe to my son Jacob Riley all the residue of my property whether real or personal of whatever kind. except as herein directed

 (viz) I give and bequeathe to my son Peter Riley one shilling

         I give and bequeathe to my son John Riley one shilling

         I give and bequeathe to my daughter Caty Lindley wife of Jacob Lindley one 
         shilling

         I give and bequeathe to my daughter Mary Gray wife of James Gray one
         shilling

I hereby appoint constitute and ordain my two sons Peter Riley & Jacob Riley my Executors to this my last will and testament.

  Further as my son Peter gave me a note of fifty five pound ten shillings for the land which I intended to give him I hereby direct that it be given him. As it is not intended it should be paid given under my hand and seal this 31st of August 1812.

                            Last Will and Testament of James Miles (About 1839) 

In the name of God Amen I James Miles of Orange County North Carolina being of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament. My wordly estate I give and bequeth in the following manner. It is my will that my wife Nancy Miles enjoy the use of the plantation whereon I now live with two hundred and ninety five acres of land belonging there to during her life I give and bequeth to her my wife two head of horses all my stock of cows all my stock of hogs all my stock of sheep with all my household furniture and kitchen utinsels all my farming utinselsall my growing crop all my corn and all my bacon that is on hand all my fodder I further bequeth to my wife Nancy.

Will of Sanders Riley       January 20, 1853      Orange County, NC 

In the name of God, Amen, I, Sanders Riley of the County of Orange and the State of North Carolina being afflicted in body but sound in memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following and first I bequeth my body to the earth from whence it was taken, 2nd I give my soul to the Lord who made me and 3rd to be buried in decent order according to the discretion of my wife and friend. And my first will is that all my just debts be paid out of my personal property and 2nd I give and bequeth to my beloved wife all my lands and tenements including the dwelling house and all necessary out houses household and kitchen furniture and after all funeral expenses is paid my will is that my beloved wife Martha Riley raise my children on the plantation and school them according to her discretion and as they come on my will is that she give each of them what she thinks she can spare without disfurnishing herself and the rest of her children. The balance to be hers during life and at her death to be equally divided amongst my living children, Vis, William Mary, John Lynch Norwood Martha and Porter and I also constitute and appoint my beloved wife Martha Riley my true and lawful executor to manage and settle all my business as though I were here presant to manage myself. In testamony where of I have hereunto set my hand and seale this twentieth day of January 1853

James Thompson’s corner thence No. 138 poles to the first station containing 100 acres and all appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents, issues & profits of the said premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claims of demand of him the said John Thompson of in and to the said premises and every part thereof To have and to hold said tract of land and all and singular the premises and every part thereof to said Thomas Thompson his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Thompson for himself and his heirs and assigns the said tract of land and premises against him & his heirs to the said Thomas Thompson his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the said John Thompson hath hereunto set his hand and seal this day & year first above written

This Indenture this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety Between John Thompson of Orange County and State of North Carolina of the one part and William Thompson of the State and County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Thompson for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred pounds current money of the State to him in hand paid be the said William Thompson the receipt whereof the said John Thompson doth hereby acknowledge both granted, bargained, sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said William Thompson his heirs and assigns all that tract of land containing by estimation two(2) hundred acres be the same more or less lying and being in the County of Orange aforesaid Beginning at a Black Jack a Corner of John Thompson running So. 147 poles to a Hicory then east 213 poles to an Ironwood bush on Rockie river thence No. 147 poles to a Spanish Oak thence No.147 poles to the first station (this has to be wrong; it should be 213 poles west to the first station) containing 200 acres all & all appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents, issues & profits of the said premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand of him the said John Thompson of in and to the said premises and every part thereof To have and to hold said tract of land and all and singular the premises and every part thereof to said William Thompson his heirs and assigns for ever the said John Thompson for himself and his heirs the said tract of land and premises against him & his heirs to the said William Thompson his heirs shall and will warrant forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the said John Thompson hath hereunto set his hand and seal this day & year first above written

Samuel Studwick to John Steel

This Indenture made this 18th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven between Samuel Strudwick of County of Orange & State of North Carolina of the one part and John Steel of the sane County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Samuel Strudwick for and in consideration of the sum of (300) three hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid be the said John Steel the receipt which the said Samuel Strudwick doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained, sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said John Steel his heirs and assigns all that tract of land containing by estimation two(2)hundred and twenty eight  acres lying and being in the County of Orange aforesaid Beginning at a Gum on the side of the Motes Creek running thence North (70) seventy degrees West (25) twenty five chains to a Post Oak nigh a branch then South (55) fifty five degrees West (19 & ½) nineteen and a half chains to a B.O. then south thirty five degrees East (1) one chain to a B.O. then south (53) fifty three degrees West ten & a half chains to a B.O. then South (10) ten degrees East nine chains to a B.O. at the road then south (26) twenty six degrees East (15 & ½) fifteen and one half chains to a Willow Oak then South (19) nineteen chains to a B.J. (Black Jack) then East (37) thirty seven chains to a Wild Cherry tree on Motes Creek about one chain from the lower corner of his other tract up the meanders thereof to the first station It being part of a larger tract originally granted to Edward Mosely and  all appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents, issues & profits of the said premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Samuel Strudwick of in and to the said premises and every part thereof to have and to hold said tract of land and all and singular the premises above mentioned and every part thereof to said John Steel his heirs and assigns to the only proper use & behalf of him the said John Steel his heirs and assigns forever & the said Samuel Strudwick for him and his heirs the said tract of land and premises and every part thereof against him & his heirs to the said John Steel his heirs shall warrant forever defend against the lawful claim or demand of any person persons whatsoever. In witness whereof we hereunto Interchangeably set to our hands and seals the date above.

This Indenture made this 18th day of June in the year of our Lord 1787 Between Samuel Strudwick Esq. of County of Orange In the State of North Carolina of the one part and John Thompson of the State and County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Samuel Strudwick Esq for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred pounds specie to him in hand paid be the said John Thompson the receipt whereof the said Samuel Strudwick doth hereby acknowledge both granted, bargained, sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell unto the said John Thompson his heirs and assigns all that tract of land containing by estimation seven(7)hundred and Sixty Four acres lying and being in the County of Orange aforesaid Beginning at a Gum on the side of the Haw River running thence No (30) thirty degrees East 19 chains to Motes Creek same courses contend (?) in all (24) twenty four chains to W.O.(White Oak) then east (45) forty five  chains to B.O. (Black Oak) on the side of Rocky Run then up the meanders of the same run to an Ironwood Bush then No (48) forty eight chains to a B.O. James Roach’s Corner then his line North (31) thirty one degrees West (40) forty chains to his other corner B.O. (Black Oak) then South (45) forty five degrees West (20) twenty chains to a P.O. (Post Oak) then North (80) eighty degrees West (44 & ¾) forty four & three fourths chains to a W.O. on the side of Motes Creek then down the meanders thereof to a Hicory, then South (20) twenty degrees West 12 twelve chains to a W.O. then South (75) seventy five degrees West  (36) thirty six chains to a Hicory on the side of Haw river then down the meanders thereof to the first station It being part of a larger tract originally granted to Edward c. Mosely and  all appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents, issues & profits of the said premises and every part thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Samuel Strudwick of in and to the said premises and every part thereof to have and to hold said tract of land and all and singular the premises above mentioned and every part thereof to said John Thompson his heirs and assigns to the only proper use & behalf the said Jno Thompson his heirs and assigns forever & the said Samuel Strudwick for him and his heirs the said tract of land and premises every part thereof against him & his heirs to the said John Thompson his heirs shall warrant forever defend against the lawful claim or demand of any person persons whatsoever.
