Letter from Wm Smith to Mr. Kettrel
Mr Kettrel I have sent two letters to you they are both exactly alike I am directed to
John Hampton you will please to examine them and see that they are exactly alike
because I wish you to sware that you delivered one of them to John Hampton & you will
keep the other for you to sware by & early in the morning take the black man and go
to billy fraysers and inquire for John Hampton & if he is in the county find him &
give him one of the letters & the other one keep it yourself,
so that no person gets it from you until I see you, and on Friday morning
weigh out Hamptons 800th Tob. (tobacco?) giving him a proportionable part of ale sorts of the
the Tob. of his crop so as not to injure either him or me bulk it dow
in the stack & when Hampton comes go & delivered it to him in my name if he dont
take it there let it remain & give yourself no further trouble about it. whether he
comes or not you will please weigh the Tob. & bulk it down in the stack on friday morning & dont
failed to deliver hampton one of the Letters tomorrow if he is in the county if he is not in the
county give it to his wife as this is business of great consequence to me hope you will not
regret any part of it I am trying to get your money which I hope to have ready for
you on xmas day when you will come dow & receive it after having done this last piece of business for me
