Michael Koonce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yours truly researchers the Koonce families of Jones and surrounding counties. \u00a0Many Koonce researchers are either descended from or are interested in, <a href=\"\/jones\/military\/captain-michael-koonce\">Capt. Michael Koonc<\/a>e and his family.<\/p>\n<p>Researcher &amp; Koonce descendant, Claude Thomas Hardison Jr. recently visited the area for the 300th Celebration in Craven County and sought out the gravesite of the family.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_793\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-793\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/jones\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/trees2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-793\" title=\"trees2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/jones\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/trees2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/jones\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/trees2.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/jones\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/trees2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-793\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">cluster of trees hiding the tombstones<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Forging through thick overgrowth, Claude did indeed get to take photos of some of the tombstones that were there.  Though he didn&#8217;t find one for Capt. Koonce or his son, he did capture photos of four tombstones:  those of \u00a0brother &amp; sister, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taneya-kalonji.com\/family\/getperson.php?personID=I133&amp;tree=3\" target=\"_blank\">Susan Hargett<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taneya-kalonji.com\/family\/getperson.php?personID=I2918&amp;tree=3\" target=\"_blank\">James Reynolds Hargett<\/a> and their spouses &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taneya-kalonji.com\/family\/getperson.php?personID=I132&amp;tree=3\" target=\"_blank\">Amos Simmons Koonce<\/a> and Susan Koonce respectively. \u00a0 Amos was a grandson of the Captain via son Michael Jr. and I&#8217;m not quite sure yet who Susan&#8217;s parents were.<\/p>\n<p>The tombstones have been added as a cemetery on the site and can be seen <a href=\"\/jones\/cemeteries\/koonce-cemetery\">from here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yours truly researchers the Koonce families of Jones and surrounding counties. \u00a0Many Koonce researchers are either descended from or are interested in, Capt.
