It was named for Willie Jones of Halifax who was one of the leaders of the Revolution and an opponent of the adoption of the Constitution of the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lying in the eastern part of North Carolina, Jones County is surrounded by<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rafert.org\/home\/carteret.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carteret<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/craven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craven<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/duplin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duplin<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/lenoir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lenoir<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, and<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncgenweb.us\/onslow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Onslow<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> counties. \u00a0The first court was held at Trent Bridge. \u00a0By an act in 1784 the town of Trenton was authorized to be laid out, and it is now the county seat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On this site you will find a collection of information about the residents of the county. \u00a0I,<\/span> <a href=\"mailto:taneya@gmail.com?subject=JonesCounty NCGenWeb\">Taneya Koonce<\/a>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">am the county coordinator, but of course this information relies on your contributions.
