B. WATSON<br \/>\nNC Supreme Court Case found at the NC Archives Raleigh, NC \u2013 Jones County<\/p>\n<p>Petition to divide slaves \u2013 Jones Co \u2013 1834 \u2013\u00a0on the Wed after the 2nd Mon of Sept in 1833 came Hardy Bryan by John H. Bryan his\u00a0attorney to court with his bill of complaint against John Washington and John A, B.\u00a0Watson \u2013 to the sheriff of Lenoir Co to bring sd Washington and Watson to Jones Co\u00a0court on a plea of trespass and damages of $1000 \u2013 James W. Bryan attor for def \u2013 on\u00a0jury was Benjamin Brook, Simmons Isler, James Harrison, John H. Hammond, Risden\u00a0M. Janvi ??, Frederick Becton, William Gooding, Simon L. Becton, Owen Harrison,\u00a0Joseph Foy, Samuel Hill and James W. Howard \u2013 part of the estate of Samuel Cox dec,\u00a0Sears Bryan being beyond the limit of the state and in the territory of Fla \u2013 in right of his\u00a0wife one of the distributes of Cox \u2013 William M. Kinney was the admin of Cox \u2013 the plf,\u00a0Hardy Bryan acting with POA filed for a petition, which is annexed, in Lenoir Co along\u00a0with the other distributees with the adm of the estate of Cox for the division of slaves of\u00a0sd Cox and the negroes were allotted to the plf \u2013 Hardy Bryan was a suriety for Sears<\/p>\n<p>Bryan and compelled to pay monies for him \u2013 the defs objected \u2013 the defs were present\u00a0when Hardy Bryan took possession of the Negroes \u2013 the def Watson exhibited a\u00a0judgment against Sears Bryan for 23 pds, 5 shillings and 9 pence bearing date 9 June\u00a01812 \u2013 (it appears that Sears Bryan owed money to the def)<\/p>\n<p>POA \u2013 attached \u2013 Sears Bryan conveyed POA to Hardy Bryan from the Territory of Fla\u00a0in Tallahassee on 7 Jan 1831 \u2013 Sears Bryan was in the county of Jackson in Fla \u2013 on\u00a0behalf of his wife, Catherine, who was a sister of Samuel Cox of Lenoir Co\u00a0Document \u2013 Lenoir Co \u2013 13 June 1833 &#8211; John Washington stated in front of John\u00a0Jackson, Justice, that Sears Bryan was indebted to him for $93.15 with interest from 9\u00a0June 1813 but he has left the county so court can&#8217;t serve papers on him \u2013 I request you\u00a0attach the estate of Sears Bryan that is found in your county<\/p>\n<p>Levied this 13 April 1833 on three Negroes the property of Sears Bryan names Silas,\u00a0Harriett and Holland \u2013 signed Jno. A. B. Watson, constable \u2013 Bryan has 30 days to come\u00a0to court to answer the debt charges<\/p>\n<p>Hardy Bryan attended on behalf of Sears Bryan and denied the charge<\/p>\n<p>Document \u2013 John Washington of Newbern and John C. Washington of Kinston are\u00a0indebted to Sears Bryan of Craven Co for $186.30 due 13 April 1833 \u2013 condition of\u00a0obligation has on this date prayed an attachment of the suit of himself against the estate\u00a0of Sears Bryan for $93.15 and interest from 9 June 1813 \u2013 if the suit is successful this to\u00a0be null and void<\/p>\n<p>Signed John Washington, Jesse Carmack, John C. Washington<\/p>\n<p>Lewis C. Desmond Clerk of Lenoir Co Court says a true copy of proceedings on 28 May\u00a01834<\/p>\n<p>DOCUMENT<\/p>\n<p>Lenoir Co \u2013 to Court on petition of Hardy Bryan on behalf of George Cox and John Cox,\u00a0infants, by James H. Edmundson, their guardian, and of William McKinney adm of\u00a0Samuel Cox and also as the agent of the said James H. Edmundson \u2013 states that Samuel\u00a0Cox departed this life intestate and had the two mentioned Negroes  &#8211; Cox left a surviving\u00a0sister, Catherine, wife of Sears Bryan, and the children George and John Cox children of\u00a0Frederick Cox a deceased brother \u2013 McKinney has in his possession the sd Negroes\u00a0Venus, Silas, Franklin and Eliza and her two children Hollon and Harriet, \u2013 Sears and\u00a0wife transferred their interest to Hardy Bryan and desire a division<\/p>\n<p>Lot # 1- Vensus valued at $150 \u2013 Eliza and two children valued at $450 \u2013 Franklin\u00a0valued at $300 \u2013 drawn by heirs of Frederick Cox<\/p>\n<p>Lot #2 \u2013 Silas valued at $350, Harriet valued at $275, Hollon valued at $300 \u2013 drawn by\u00a0Hardy Bryan<\/p>\n<p>13 April 1833<\/p>\n<p>signed D.
