Speight and Adam Heath be\u00a0appointed Commissioners to do so<\/p>\n<p>Dec 9 \u2013 A Bill to alter the names of persons within \u2013 name of Jesse Hatcher and\u00a0Allen Somersett illegitimate sons of Stephen Barfield be altered to Jesse and\u00a0Allen Barfield and Dennis Dupree to that of Dennis Williams \u2013 (no county given\u00a0for any of them but Dupree was of Greene Co)<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORTS<\/p>\n<p>13 Nov &#8211; Petition of John Tutle of Lenoir Co \u2013 after reading the petition the\u00a0committee examined the notice given to William Easterling the sitting member \u2013\u00a0Easterling was to keep his seat  &#8211; Report of Lazarus Pearce of Lenoir Co being\u00a0of full age \u2013 the election in August to elect members of the General Assembly\u00a0and William Goodman, the Sheriff,  requested Pearce to keep a separate\u00a0account from the Clerk \u2013 candidates for the House of Commons were John Tutle\u00a0who received 183 votes, William Easterling who received 186 votes, and Hardy\u00a0Croom (no votes given) \u2013 after the official vote was taken 14 or 15 more\u00a0tickets were counted and all were for Easterling except two \u2013 Tutle contested\u00a0the election but lost<\/p>\n<p>SENATE COMMITTEE REPORTS<\/p>\n<p>29 Aug 1800 \u2013 Greene County \u2013 John Garland of Greene Co stated his son,\u00a0Matthew Garland, was only 20 years of age last January \u2013 Garland signed his\u00a0name \u2013 WIT was W. Holliday, J. Glasgow, Jonas Williams, William Taylor,\u00a0Robt Whyts<\/p>\n<p>Petition of Samuel Speight \u2013 he was the Sheriff in Glasgow County in 1796 \u2013 he\u00a0was not able to settle and account for taxes of that year \u2013 he has been fined\u00a0100 pounds plus interest  &#8211; everything is now settled and he wishes  relief\u00a0(a note that he did not pay the tax until 1798)<\/p>\n<p>PETITIONS CONCERNING LAND<\/p>\n<p>13 Nov \u2013 Petition of William Croom \u2013 on 1 June 1799 William White, Esq sold\u00a0700 acres of land in Lenoir County known as Tower Hill and Croom purchased the\u00a0land for 1890 pounds \u2013 1\/3 to be paid one year later and other 2\/3rds to be\u00a0paid two years later \u2013 the first payment has been made and the next payment is\u00a0due next June \u2013 Croom has since found that 40 acres of the said land is claimed\u00a0by Thomas Collier and another 150 acres is claimed by Francis McIlwean \u2013\u00a0neither will give up their possession of said land \u2013 Croom wants justice done\u00a0and not have to pay all of the remained of what he owes.<\/p>\n<p>Petition of Penelope Abrams of Greene County \u2013 her husband was Lemuel Abrams\u00a0who has been gone for a long time with no intention of returning \u2013 Penelope\u00a0has a two year old daughter \u2013 Penelope would like to purchase land in her own\u00a0right with Lemuel having no right to it<\/p>\n<p>Petition of Robert Reynolds of Jones Co \u2013 he had a horse impressed in the\u00a0service of this State by John Smith, Brigadier Quarter Master \u2013 the horse was\u00a0valued by Lewis Williams, John Waldron and Isham Hawse as worth 40 pounds \u2013\u00a0Smith neglected to give a Certificate of Valuations until Sept 1791 \u2013 the\u00a0Board of Auditors for New Bern District had adjourned so no payment was made\u00a0\u2013 Reynolds wishes relief \u00a0&#8212;\u00a0Signed his name<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 75%;\" \/>BOX 4<\/p>\n<p>PETITIONS \u2013 MISC<\/p>\n<p>Lewis Bledsoe former Sheriff of Wake County by virtue of an Act of the\u00a0Legislature in 1798 issued a warrant for the arrest of James Glasgow of Greene\u00a0Gounty \u2013 Glasgow was brought to Raleigh \u2013 Willoughby Williams was indicted,\u00a0convicted, and sentenced to the New Bern Jail \u2013 on the way to New Bern we were\u00a0attacked by dysentery and Williams was seized by it \u2013 it took 18 days to get\u00a0to New Bern and return to Raleigh \u2013 Bledsoe wishes compensation\u00a0Certificate of Elections in the House\u00a0Greene Co \u2013 14th and 15th of August \u2013 Jones Williams and William Taylor were\u00a0elected to the House<\/p>\n<p>Lenoir Co \u2013 14th and 15th of Aug \u2013 Hardy Croom and Wm.
