WIDOW\u2019S APPLICATION FOR PENSION<\/strong><\/p>\n

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA<\/strong><\/p>\n

County of Jones<\/p>\n

(NOTE) This is a second request that is signed)<\/p>\n

On this 27th day of July, A. D., 1896, personally appeared before me S. E. Koonce,\u00a0C.S.C. in and for the State and county aforesaid, Mrs. C. E. Chase, age 55 years,\u00a0and a resident at Comfort post office, in said county and State, and who, being duly\u00a0sworn, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension under the\u00a0provisions of an act entitled, \u201cAn act for the relief of certain soldiers of the late war\u00a0between the States,\u201d ratified March 11, 1889; as amended by acts of General\u00a0Assembly of 1891, 1893 and 1895; that she is the widow of the late Wm. H Chase,\u00a0who enlisted in the Co B, 51st Reg. N.C. State Troops on or about the 21st day of\u00a0March, 1862, to serve in the armies of the late Confederate States, and that while in\u00a0performance of duty in said Company and Regiment, in the State of ______, on or\u00a0about the ____day of ________ 186_, he received a wound or wounds or injuries\u00a0which terminated his life.<\/p>\n

(Applicant will here state very particularly when and where the husband died; whether\u00a0he was in the discharge of his duty as a soldier or sailor at the time of the receipt of\u00a0the wound or injury or contracting of the disease; whether the death was the probable\u00a0consequence of such service and all other circumstances necessary to establish the\u00a0fact of service and death of husband, etc. )<\/p>\n

W.H. Chase husband died November 6th, 1895. \u00a0She further states that she has never re-married; that she is, and has been for twelve\u00a0months immediately preceding this Application for Pension, a bona fide resident of\u00a0North Carolina; that she holds no office under the United States, or under any State\u00a0or county, from which she is receiving the sum of three hundred dollars as fees or\u00a0as salary annually; that she is not worth in her own right, or the right of her late\u00a0husband, property at its assessed value for taxation to the amount of five hundred\u00a0dollars ($500), nor has she disposed of property of such value by gift or voluntary\u00a0conveyance since the 11th of March, 1885.<\/p>\n

Sworn and subscribed to before me this _27th day of July, 1896<\/p>\n

Also personally appeared before me Margaret McGee, who resides at Comfort post\u00a0office and A. B. Chase who resides at Comfort Post office, in said county and State,\u00a0persons whom I know to be respectable and entitled to credit, and being by me duly\u00a0sworn, say that they are acquainted with C. E. Chase, the widow of the late W. H.\u00a0Chase, of Co B, 51 Regiment North Carolina State Troops, and that they believe\u00a0her to be the identical person she represents herself to be, and that the facts set\u00a0forth in her affidavit are correct to the best of their knowledge and belief, and that\u00a0they have no interest, direct or indirect, in this claim.<\/p>\n
