This Indenture made this fifth day of April one thousand eight hundred and seventeen between William RHODES Snr. Of the State of North Carolina and County of Jones of the one part and James RHODES of the same place of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars in hand paid or secured to be paid the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge by the said William RHODES and for the same hath bargained sold conveyed and confirmed unto the said James RHODES a certain piece of land or parcel situated lying and being in the State and County aforesaid on the north side of Tuckahoe on the great branch beginning at a black gum and water oak at the run of great branch a little below JARMANS Ford, and runs N 78 Wst 84 poles to a stump and two black jacks then S 55 West 200 poles to a black gum in Jumping Run near the head then S 16 E 163 poles to a stake then beginning Corner of Jacob JOHNSTONS five hundred acre survey then N 47 Est 50 poles to a stake then S 37 Est 92 poles to a stakes then N47 Est 64 poles to a short leaf pine in a drain, then East 127 poles to a water oak WINSETS corner formerly ca—c? In great branch then up with the various courses of the run of the same to the beginning containing by estimation three hundred and fifty seven acres be the same more or less being part of several surveys to have and to hold the above bargained premises with all and every of the appurtanants in anywise pertaining thereunto unto him and his heirs and assigns forever and the said William RHODES, Senr. Doth further covenant and agree to and with the said James RHODES that he for himself his heirs Execr’s and administrators will from time to time and at all times hereafter Warrant and forever defend the before mentioned bounded Lands and Tenaments with al and every of its appurtanances in any wise belonging to the same to the said James RHODES and his heirs and assigns for ever from the lawfull claim of any person or persons whatsoever, except the Taxes that may hereafter become due. In Witness where of the said William RHODES hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date and date first before written.
